NOT LOUD ENOUGH!

Is there music that, when you first heard it, you felt you'd been waiting your entire life to discover? And you play it over and over again at the loudest setting, regretting your system can't play it louder, ears be damned?

For me, right now, that's Mars Volta's first album. Previously it was Armand Van Helden's My my my my.

I felt like that when I discovered Bruce Springsteen. And the Supremes.

Not a piece that i necessarily want to blast, but certainly one i can never hear too many times: Ralph Vaughn Williams' "The Lark Ascending". It is, quite simply, the most beautiful piece of music ever written.

Edit: Piece of music i cannot hear loud enough: Baba O'Riley, The Who.

The whole Master of Reality record is way too quiet/reserved for my liking, especially the vocals, so I have to crank it up to really enjoy it :(

^Oh yes! Black Sabbath rules!
*puts on Iron Man*

Sometimes I put on the Lord of the Rings soundtracks, and turn the volume up way high. I have them in 5.1 Dolby Digital, and the Khazad-Dûm track is hauntingly beautiful. The Battle of the Pelennor Fields gives me nerdgasms still... :o

You kids and your loud music! :scream:

I play it all loud. And the older I get, the louder I have to play it.

It's an interesting question, really. My answer may be rather mainstream, but I'd have to say I crank it extra loud any time I hear "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Taxman". (Yes, I'm old.)

I love that piece gturner. It is one of my favorites. (It doesn't matter how many times I hear it, I get cold chills about mid way through and end it with a huge smile on my face. If joy could be translated into sound, that is about as close as you can get.)

For me, I don't like music to be loud. I prefer a nice volume that won't destroy my hearing. But I do have one or two songs that I can't help but turn up. Even with my aversion to loud noises, I am compelled too.

The first is Keane's "Spiraling". That song just makes me feel so excited and energized. I can't help myself.

The second is Björk's "Army of Me". This song just gets my blood moving.

And third is Bear McCreary's "Passacaglia". I can only get about a minute in before the tears start. To me, it is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. It is so sad yet full of hope. And I turn it up so that the violins envelope me. It just seems more tangible that way.

I have others but these three pop to mind first.

Muskrat Love by the Captain and Tennille.

Seriously, Somebody to Love by The Jefferson Airplane, yes I love that scene in The Cable Guy.

"Immigrant Song" and "Hell's Bells" [classics...]

This needs to be played loud, or you'll miss half of it.

Oh, there's lots of music that I like to hear loud. :rommie: The Who, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen et cetera. How can you not crank up "Thunder Road" or "Born To Run?"

When I'm driving around, I always turn up songs that I like a little bit. By the time the song is over, I'm used to the increased volume, so I don't turn it down, and the loudness factor therefore increases incrementally throughout my journey. Then the next time I go out, usually early in the morning while I'm still half asleep, I turn on the ignition and the radio blasts me head over heels into the backseat. :rommie:
