Non-franchise, non-fiction books about ST

Hmm ... way I understood it, Van Hise was his allegedly creative partner, not an employee of Schuster's.

That's not the impression I get reading Van Hise's comments to me.

One book I really wish they'd come out with -- it was promoted in a couple other of their books -- was going to be titled RETURN TO TOMORROW and be the Preston Jones account of making TMP that never ran in CFQ. I'm guessing they never paid Jones either.
It's my understanding that that was going to come from Ed Gross's Image imprint, formed after he quit working for Schuster. Jones says his manuscript was 1800 pages long, which may be a factor in the book's not being published.

He claims interview quotes were always attributed, eh? Try reading that SPECIAL EFFECTS OF STAR TREK and you'll see years of CINEFEX articles badly rewritten to make up most of the copy. Van Hise or Schuster, either way, the lifts were rarely attributed.

I recently saw a bunch of those Van Hise books at a remainders store. I couldn't move myself to buy one, they were so ugly.
