Hi Everyone
Long time since I've logged in and longer since I've posted. I thought I'd bring you all up to speed on the family and I. As some of you might remember. r not, we moved here to Texas in 2012. The first job down here for an environmental engineering company was rough from the start because the contract I was hired for never appeared and I struggled on with that company until 2014 when the price of oil crashed. That's was the start of a 7 month layoff.
Then I was working for a construction company out of PA rebuilding an earthen dam in Oklahoma as a project manager. That was a trip. I'll admit I was a little in over my head but I was making it work. Then about 2 months ago an old boss of mine made me an offer I couldn't turn away.
I hired back on with his company with the promise of moving back to the mid-Atlantic and Virginia in particular. My first born was born in VA and the wife's family is still there. My family in PA is only a few hours away as well. Anyway I signed on as a senior geophysicist. The trick is the job is in Kuwait. So, as I sit here typing away I am waiting for the embassy to get my visa ready and I am furiously trying to gt thing straight here in Katy before I leavek probably next week or the week after.
Our job is to clean up all the unexploded ordnance around those oil wells you saw during the Kuwait war back in the 90s. I have to stay for 4 months to get residency and then I hope to do 21 days there and 10 days home. I figure anything is better than Hugo Oklahoma.
Well that is it in a nutshell. I hope all you are doing well. I'll keep you informed.
By the way, I have missed bantering around with you all

a geophysicist cleaning up UOD? Isn't that a job for military specialists, rather?
Kuwait doesn't exactly have a good reputation when it comes to human rights. Frankly, I wouldn't accept a job there even if it earned me a fortune. I'd prefer Oklahoma.

Nope, it is big business. Check out the National Association of Ordnance Contractors, and yes ordnance is spelled this way. This job is being run by South Africans and I'm just a subcontractor.
