No UMD Conversion for PSP Go

well, when you rattle off the entire package of the PS3 like you copied and pasted it off the official website

Sorry, I forgot that the internet frowns upon using facts to back up your arguments.

not to menton how defensive you have gotten makes me wonder, and tell me how exactly i have been a fanboy, and a fanboy of what?

Not defensive, just sick of the baseless Sony bashing that seems to be rife in many corners of the web. And maybe "fanboy" is a poor choice of words, but you definitely come across as a Sony basher.

and the 360 does web browse if you synch it up to a computer

So, again, not something that the system can do of its own accord.

well excuse me, but when I have to look a game up, it isn't what one would consider well known

So because you hadn't heard of it, you then thought that meant that no-one else had?

once again, what fanboyishness have I been doing? i haven't been touting one system over another, just putting down the poor market practices of a company making poor decisions

As I said, fanboy was probably the wrong word, but you can't hide behind the "putting down poor market practices" argument. Apart from what you said about the cost of the PS3, your arguments have boiled down to the fact that you don't think the games catalog or the exclusives are very good. Personal opinion, not fact.

^well, when Sony does something like the PSP GO, cutting out a large market and one of it's more apealing functionalities, i'm going to give it hell, I have a PSP , i play it alot (more tham my DS, actualy), I don't have a PS3 because of lack of interest, which Sony hasn't been helping any with with it's latest ad campaign and lack of any real "pull me in" titles, the Wii has the same problem, I have a Wii, played it for 3 months a few months after launch, only now touched it again just for anecdotal reasons, other than Brawl and Super Paper Mario, it just doesn't have any appealing titles.

I hate to say this but the PsP is dead. It'll be like the Sega Game Gear. It tried to do too many things and it failed. Miserably. The UMD was a complete failure by Sony and well it is dead. The Go won't save it.

The PSP will be a niche device in America. I mean, you can play pretty much every PS1 game on it and there's a considerable library of games on the PSP - especially RPGs if that's your thing.

I read comments like this and I can only imagine that you mean the PSP is dead to you, because it's selling really well in Japan, Europe and North America (though last month's sales numbers took a hit due to the anticipation of the PSPgo).

It also has a pretty hefty lineup of major franchises coming or recently released including Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo and Assassin's Creed. Saying it's "dead" is the strangest comment, I could see where you were coming from in 07/08, but publisher support for the system has kicked into high gear in the last 8-9 months and shows no signs of slowing down.

the UMD was the best part of the PSP because it wasn't limited to games, my PSP goes everywhere with me when I travel because I have alot of video UMD's

Interesting you feel that way, as a lot of folks think UMD's are cumbersome and outdated (I don't necessarily agree). I think it was a good decision to keep both the UMD playing models and digital PSPgo on the market.

they are just mini DVD's in a casing, which is a brilliant idea because it saves the disc from scratching, I wish regular CDs and DVD's would go that route

It amazes me that people actually think an optical drive in a portable device is a good idea :wtf:

I hate to say this but the PsP is dead.

Mine isn't, and its game library is steadily improving. So... speak for yourself.

The PSP still doesn't have a strong games library. Most titles are either ports/remakes of older games or have superior console versions. The only game I'd really miss if I didn't have a PSP would be the port of Final Fantasy Tactics because of it's better translation and nice cut scenes.

The sad thing about the PSP is that it seems as if gamestop and other retailers are on the verge of killing support for it. I go in expecting to shell out cash for a PSP game or two just to find that they only have the absolute newest releases

Oh please. Maybe it doesn't have games that interest you, but saying the PSP doesn't have a strong library, and that most titles are ports and remakes is bordering on ignorance.

This was true over the first two years of the systems life, when PS2 ports were coming thick and strong, but most of the best titles on PSP are not ports.

Not Ports (currently available)
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow
Resistance: Retribution
Daxter
God of War: Chains of Olympus
Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
Final Fantasy: Dissidia
Gran Turismo PSP
Dead Head Fred
Brave Story
Jeanne D'arc
Motorstorm: Arctic Edge
GTA: Liberty City Stories
GTA: Vice City Stories
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Killzone: Liberation
Pursuit Force
Patapon 1 and 2
Wipeout Pulse
Wipeout Pure
Burnout Legends
Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters
Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero
Loco Roco 1 and 2
Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure

Not ports (upcoming)
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep
Parasite Eve: 3rd Birthday
Valkyria Chronicles 2
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines
Final Fantasy Agito XIII
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier
Phantasy Star Portable
Ushiro

That's a list of some of the best titles, don't see how this could be described as a library that isn't strong. The myth that the PSP "has no games" or is a system littered with ports has long since been dispelled. If these games aren't your cup of tea, that's fine, but there's no denying the breadth of quality in the library. It may not be as deep as say the PS2, PS1, SNES or NES, but it's pretty impressive.

But did you not notice I also said "superior console versions", which many of those games fall under. The PSP is basically an inferior version of the PS2 - it's not fulfilling it's potential. The DS for instance is unique in what it can do compared to anything else in the current or previous generations and therefore has some games worth buying the system for.

Games on that list that were eventually ported to the PS2 (whether they were superior or not is debatable)

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow
Wipeout Pure (I think)
Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters

Be aware that the original list isn't definitive, it's just the great games I could think of off the top of my head.

Also, while the DS's gameplay input is unique, the PSP is unique in its own ways as well, I'd like to see how else you'd be able to enjoy the God of War experience on a trans-atlantic flight. It fills a gap and provides a console-esque experience for folks who want that on the go. It's also more and more providing smaller, bite sized experiences with the new Minis category (and lots of smaller games like Loco Roco, Patapon, Exit etc before).

Gizmodo goes for the throat.

Looking at the design, a conspiracy theory pops in my head. The PSPgo was the template for the PSP2. Open, it had dual analogs. Closed, it had a touchscreen. Somewhere inside, it had a faster processor, more RAM and, hell, maybe even 3G or something. Maybe it was machined of metal and could be thrown like a ninja star. Regardless of this theory's truth, we're stuck with the Go as-is.

That's silly, because the PSP Go is based around an old cellphone shell design. Maybe at the very first prototype stages they spec'ed up a "PSP2", but I can't imagine that thought was entertained for too long.

I mean, that's not saying that they had millions of old Mylos around that they recycled, but I'm sure the experience of making that plastic, designing screens and motherboards for that casing pretty much defined what the device would have been.

True enough. It certainly would've been more interesting, though. Both the DSi and PSPGo are rather disappointing devices. Oh well, WiiHD looks to be the next upcoming piece of major gaming hardware. Given that I've sold my Wii and kinda regret it, I have my fingers crossed.
