No Rex this spring

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that David Tennant's pilot for Rex is Not Your Lawyer has been passed over by NBC.

However, while this means the show won't be on this spring as originally hoped after the Leno debacle, according to EW it's not necessarily dead as it could still be commissioned for the fall.

Not a huge surprise. When NBC pulled Leno lots of people expected suddenly to see 5 new drama shows magically appear. More likely it'll be variations on "Are You Smarter than a Cheesecake?" for the time being. Still, I know a few folks were saying they didn't want to see Rex rushed into production anyway, so this might be all for the good. Or it's simply possible that, despite how good Tennant probably was, the show itself sucked and we (and Tennant) are being spared embarrassment.

As for the show, this has left things very up in the air, I guess we will need to look out to see what the actors attached to this do in the fall development series (which has pretty much already started)

This obviously should not reflect badly on Tennant himself, however his agent might want to pick better projects.

Random insight: David Tennant looks gorgeous, even when he's just throwing his leftovers away.

But I wonder if this series doesn't get started what were the scheduling problems that prevented him from doing Hare & Burke?

Awww, damn, I'm sorry to hear that! I was really looking forward to seeing the show, and seeing Tennant on American TV. (I mean, if we can't have him as the Doctor, it's better than nothing, right?)

Nice to see he's not a diva on set. There are actors out there who wouldn't dream of throwing out their own trash and scraping their plates clean!

if he is in neeed of a quick buck he can do an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures, there is enough of a gap to get away with one more episode.

Moving on, now he has returned to Doctor Who, Matt Smith can trip on a brick regenerate into a whole new 10th Doctor his first words being "Did you miss me?"

Nah Tennant should stay out in the US and try to get himself attached to one of the many pilots for the 2010/2011 series that are about to go into production.

I'm sure he doesn't have to be worried about unemployment right now. I could imagine, that he gets a lot of offers. The difficulty lies therein to make the right choices.

Besides, if "[t]he sets are on fold-and-hold" as the article states, there are still possibilities that the series will happen.

DT should fire his agent for landing him a job on NBC the network is on the verge of total failure and his show even if it airs will probably fail simply because it airs on NBC. The show itself sounds brilliant and it would be a perfect fit on ABC or Cable.

True, but remembering 99% of American viewers have no idea who he is, it might not hurt for him to do a couple of high-profile guest spots to build up his cachet. Maybe not a "blink and you'll miss him" appearance like Eccleston made in Heroes. But a guest shot on, say, NCIS or a CSI wouldn't hurt.

As it stands right now, I could easily see NBC execs replacing him, arguing that O'Connell is the better-known name with US viewers. I recall when Hugh Laurie got House it was only after making a bunch of made-for-TV movie appearances and the like in the US, in particular the Me and My Shadows biopic of Judy Garland which won some awards (Laurie played Vincente Minnelli and got to test-drive his American accent). Before that, only Britcom fans who watch PBS religiously had any idea who this guy was. And then it also relied on a network that was in the mood to take risks to cast him in the lead in House. I don't know if NBC is in much of a mood for risk taking these days...

I agree about building up his profile with guest and recurring roles where he can. Fellow Scot Kevin McKidd was lucky enough to land leading roles on Rome and then Journeyman (sadly cancelled) but he's happy enough with a recurring role on Gray's Anatomy (I think it may now be a regular one). As a result, he's more visible than he's ever been since Trainspotting.

Ian Beale was having a moan about BBC catering a couple of weeks back.

Im guessing its small portions in the US, so actors dont get fat.
