No Rand? No Chappelle?

Yup, I agree. Trek XI needs Chapelle. :p

I for one am mildly put off they have as much of the original crew on board as they do, considering this story seems to take place a good 10 years or so before TOS.

Yeah I think they should have done without Chekov at least. They could have saved him for the 2nd movie. Or atleast adheared to the order they are supposed to be on the ship a little closer. Like Maybe Chekov is there but for some other reason, like a cadet or something.

I guess J.J. Abrams and the writers followed the concept of the Big 7 that was established since TWOK and onwards.

That is how the names of the actors were assigned for the hand prints in front of the Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Because, fans recall when Chapel was considered part of the Big 7 ahead of Chekov when TAS premiered in the early 1970's.

Yes, Trek XI does need more Rand Miller in my opinion.

I mean... he made Myst! Since JJ Abrams seems to be handing out cameos like grilled cheese sandwiches at a Grateful Dead concert, it's not unreasonable to ask.

I'm boycotting this movie if it doesn't have him.

On the serious side, both Rand and Chapel were implied to be very recent arrivals when they made their first TOS appearances. Kirk wasn't used to a female Yeoman yet in "The Corbomite Maneuver", and Chapel had joined the crew in hopes of finding her old beau, something that she couldn't have hoped to do if she joined for the original "Where No Man" mission of going beyond the galactic rim already. And that mission would seem to come between STXI and TOS - assuming that the storyline of STXI doesn't erase the other storylines from existence altogether, of course.

It's too bad that Chekov, too, is suggested to be a new addition to the crew when he first appears - he has to prove himself to people like Uhura.

...back on topic (sorry)... as Timo said above, it seems from the dialogue in What are Little Girls Made of? that Chapel had just recently joined the crew. In fact I always got the vibe that she had joined the crew only weeks or months prior to that episode (although admittedly there is nothing that confirms my "vibe").

As for Rand, she could be on the ship in this film, but just somewhere "below decks".

Genius! I work from home and I was on a weekly conference call with my companies CEO and other execs when I naturally decided to check out the BBS. I literally had to bite my tongue and forceably turn my head so as not to burst into hilarious laughter. :guffaw:
