No Ordinary Family(ABC) clip

Irrelevant. The fact that the movie was able to spin multiple TV shows and become a fairly strong franchise suggests that you can push a concept beyond a 2 hour movie.

Irrelevant. One case does not indicate a trend.

As others have pointed out, Stargate is not the only movie that was adapted into a television show successfully. In fact, Stargate wasn't added until after other shows were given as examples first.

And you haven't addressed the fundamental issue of rampant suckage in both the movie and the TV series that it spawned, which invalidates this example.
Which has nothing to do with your initial implication that a two hour movie doesn't have enough plot to pull off a TV show.

Opinion =/= Fact.
That doesn't even make sense! :rommie:
Opinion does not equal fact. You're opinion on the Stargate franchise might be low. However, that doesn't automatically make it so. Others think the opposite. Does that make them wrong? No. It just means they have a different opinion and they feel the franchise is quality.

You destroyed your credibility (to the extent you have any) with your opening line.

These were my opening lines: "Strictly speaking, success is always due to "quality," doing something well that appeals to an audience. The question is always, what is this show doing?"

And, you omitted this follow up from my second post: "But I've seen crap reality shows flop, while the ones with high ratings are doing reality shows with flair and distinction."

Falsifying my position does not make you right.

It's not my fault you can't come up with an argument showing what a show or genre does isn't worth doing, such as falsifying reality or promoting stereotypes or being inconsistent or copping out at the end or promoting greed (which is what I suspect reality shows are actually doing.) Lots of SG-1 episodes had nothing blown up with C4, you know it, but you insist on babbling about it.

I suspect you also know perfectly well that taking pyramids as alien landing pads was a premise that didn't really survive the first time the credits rolled. If you could suspend disbelief that long, that is. Which means you spent your time watching Stargate pining for the impossible. I'm sure that was frustrating but that doesn't justify distorting what I post. There's no rational connection there.

I think this looks pretty fun, comparisons to The Incredibles, Heroes, and Fantastic Four aside. Michael Chiklis was one of the better elements from those lame FF movies, and Julie Benz is a terrific actress. I'd almost just watch the show just to see the dynamic between Chiklis and Romany Malco as his best friend (Malco was fantastic on Weeds).

^Agreed.

My favorite bit of what I saw was the relationship between Chiklis & Malco. (Great job on Weeds)

"Darla" was a POOR casting choice. She gives off no "mother" vibe, or "I care for my children" vibe, just a "Darla" vibe.

Have you seen Julie Benz in "Dexter"? She's nothing if not maternal in that series.

I admit I think of her more as "Rita' from DEXTER than "Darla" these days.

^She's got a nice range, I was reminded of that When I saw her playing a lawyer/executive in this clip.

I see no real problems in her drawing on the intelligence of "Darla" and combining that with the maternal nature of "Rita".

"Rita" had just a tad too much ditz to her, so it was easy to forget that Benz herself can portray calculating and cunning.

I know she won't, but if they ever do an episode where the mom goes super-villian or is possessed, I'd be on board.
