no...no...NO!!!!!

In the other thread, This this and this, we are stating what needs to be in the movie to make it work. Here, in this thread, what should this movie totally avoid to make it work for you..

I have three ideas;

1. No JPL inspired Tecnho-babble (Sorry Ben).
2. Cut down on the close ups (a directors #1 thing to do when trying to cut back on extras/filming on closed sets)
3. Get to the meat of the movie...no screwing around at the start of the movie (Generations did this, thanks to Jeri Taylor's input) just for 'pacing' issues...

Indeed we can do with less technobabble.

We can also do with less technical dei-ex-machina a la 'Voyager', with less politically-correct Guinan-style moralizing, with less arrogant self-importance in general and with the 'small scale' the Trek franchise has ended up with (I don't know how to explain the latter - we just need more of the impressive vistas which were hinted at in the nuTrek trailers).

Trek - as I understand it - is supposed to be larger than life, full of verve, not just a futuristic equivalent of today's banalities.

I am happy that they are going with a faster paced story. I am going to use Seinfeld as an example. That show could cram a lot of stuff in a half an hour episode. So can animated shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy. None of those shows suffer from cramming a lot with their time slots. (unless you don't like those shows).

How about not portraying the leadership of starfleet as a bunch of narrow-minded political cronies?

(ST3, ST5, ST6, Half of TNG, most of DS9, ST9, I am thinking of you).

How about no aliens with one unified and single-concept driven cultures?

How about we finally do away with the bad-guy? That's it, no more bad guys? Kahn Kruge Sybok Chang Soran The Queen That Sona Guy I can't be bothered to remember and the P-clone whose name I can't be bothered to remember. Now we can add this nero fellow to the list - a bad guy whom thinks that his actions are both necissary and inevitable.

Howabout a good morality play told through the eyes of a gallant starship crew as they seek out new life and civilizations.

Is that too much to ask for?

No cute, cuddly alien lifeforms.
No pre-teens with extra-ordinary IQ
No wink, nod jokes to the audience that break through the 5th wall

The Picard clone's name was SHINZON:shifty: And I don't think Sybok as a ''BAD-GUY'' so much as ''Confused''

^ YES!

1. No socio-political agenda driven "message." I don't mind a little real-world relevance but do NOT use this film to beat me over the head with something.

2. No technobabble. Unless the detailed inner workings of some bit of technology or physical phenomena are critically relevant to the story, do not waste my time with a lot of fancy but meaningless words thrown around just to make people sound smart and futuristic.

3. Don't be predictable. Throw away the formulas and cliches--especially the ones endemic to Star Trek--and keep me guessing about what's going to happen for longer than the first twenty minutes.

^AMEN! And I really don't want to hear a story about how all that warping of space is causing ''Galactic Warming'' or some such ''CRAP'':wtf:

^ There's a ''5th'' Wall??

Thanks to Robert Orci's theories on quantum physics, there is also a sixth, seventh and eighth wall... :rommie:

There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of mans' fears and the summit of his knowledge.

Sorry, wrong franchise.

I second that one whole-heartedly. I'm thinking of you, Klingons, and your excuse for everything, honourrrrrrrrrr! :klingon:

Man, that's annoying. You suck, because you are without honourrrrrrr! It's raining, the weather is without honourrrrrrr. Give me a break.
