Not in the lower 48. Apparently they will be airing in Canada. In spite of the CW network sending out advance screeners of tonight's new episode of Supernatural (the episode was enthusiastically praised) and the return of a beloved character to Smallville--both are being preempted nationwide tonight.
The CW is going to repeat the new episodes of Vampire Diaries and Nikita which aired last night. The decision was made yesterday. Since Idol aired last night, the network wants more people to "be able to sample" the two newer shows (the quote from CW's press release). New episodes of SPN and SV that were scheduled for tonight are now slated to air February 4.
Final ratings for last night's new episodes per Travis Yanan at pifeedback.com. V-Diaries took a small dip. Nikita was its usual pathetic self. It's not as if Idol is going to go away. I don't know what the network is thinking other than it cares about promoting the newer shows and doesn't care about the older ones. Nothing's going to save Nikita, so the SPN fan that is me is pissed.
Whatever. Some people think the real reason is a rumored storyline in SV's newest episode that parallels unfortunate recent real life events.
The Vampire Diaries
- 3.330 million viewers
- 2.0/3 HH
- 1.6/4 A18-49
- 1.8/5 A18-34
- 2.3/7 W18-34
Nikita
- 2.619 million viewers
- 1.6/3 HH
- 1.1/3 A18-49
- 1.0/3 A18-34
- 1.3/3 W18-34
Unbelievable. Maybe they think people will watch since they're snowed in.
Supernatural's fans managed to get the show on to the cover of TV Guide for the first time via vote just a few weeks ago. They beat out Chuck. Are they going to move the newer V-Diaries to Fridays? Obviously not. Dumb, dumb, dumb move. Casual viewers aren't going to know what's going on.
