Our heroes could time travel to the future where PineKirk meets ShatnerKirk as his future self. 
Now you have me picturing Jeff Anderson doing Q a la Randal.
The last act is way too dense with Wrath of Khan stuff, and even Star Trek 2009 stuff. Abramsprise and Vengeance battle it out near the Regula planetoid, err, the Moon. Then they make the space jump to Nero's drill, err, the Vengeance. Then Khan wants the Genesis data from Kirk and receives torpedoes from Spock instead, err. Then Spock repairs the warp core to save the ship and Kirk dies behind a glass wall and shouts KHAAAAN, err. And the Abramsprise rises from the clouds of Titan, err, Earth. And then Nero's drill crashes next to San Francisco, err, the Vengeance crashes into San Francisco. And at the end there is a ceremony at Starfleet and then they warp off again with the Boldy go speech.

I praise it because both the critics and public at large thought it was the best blockbuster of the summer. Any monetary considerations are icing on the cake...and we're all supposed to line up and praise this thing because it made money...
And the Klingon's name is Kruge.
What would have been excellent is if it had blown up instead of Vulcan and it was humans who were the under populated refugees of the AQ.

Really? I think it should be praised on it's own merits, popular or not. If it's quality writing, and quality movie making.

Of course, that could be less "STID is great" and more "we didn't like the other blockbusters at all". You never know.
Depends on what the plot is.
A Klingon will end up killing Carol, and it will be found out that she was pregnant with Kirk's son. So we'd end up with Kirk's hatred of Klingons a few decades early and with even more of a reason.
