No love for "The Expanse" (SyFy)

Well not so much James Cameron as James Cameron's budget..
More like James Cameron's willingness to nearly kill his actors.

I, on the other hand, think it adds to the fun being able to poke holes in the science. The nearest we might ever come to Epstein drives might well be something akin to Orion nuclear pulse propulsion - possibly using antimatter-initiated fusion - dropping mininukes out the back end of a pusher plate and exploding them. Probably never going to be allowed within the earth's magnetosphere though. Carl Sagan thought it would be a noble way of depleting the world's stockpile of nuclear weapon material.
I have fun with things like Star Trek and Star Wars, especially lightsabers, and blasters, which have some freaky real life implications.

This is probably why I shy away from harder SF because just when I think I have a handle on how it all works, something else happens that I don't understand.

I caught a few Expanse clips on YouTube... and I'm really impressed by the very realistic portrayal of spacecraft moving and interacting in space, in the "Battle of Thoth Station." Isn't this supposed to be accessible on NetFlix? I searched on it and nothing turned up.

It's a Netflix show outside the United States and Canada.

In the US, season's 1 & 2 can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

Ah, got it. I'm a bit more naive about NetFlix than I realized. I thought that since this media streaming service originated in the USA, all content in their library would be accessible. I don't have Amazon Prime. I recently checked out "Dark" on NetFlix, which is a series produced in Germany (has dubbing for English, that's sadly not very good). Given that, maybe Expanse might make it over to the US NetFlix library if somehow popularity picks up.

It won't because in the US it's a SyFy show... The only way it makes it to Netflix is if SyFy cancels the show, but Netflix gets the rights to US distribution.

Ah, OK -- didn't realize the intricate distribution factors here. Thanks. :)

Just heard it got cancelled :( been following since season 1. Haven't seen season 3 yet but planning to binge once I rewatched the season1/2 blu ays I have.

Here' hoping Netflix picks this one up.

I assume the rights to stream the expanse in the US will expire at some date - at which time, Netflix could acquire them perhaps - unless Amazon want to spoil things and play silly buggers for little reason? The potential streaming market outside the US is much larger. Netflix localise the series into several other languages, which is the usual reason given why it takes several months to appear on Netflix in the UK.

You can switch the audio to German. I'm not sure why they went with English as the default. All their other foreign language shows are in the original language.

Combining online, DVR, and on demand viewing, it had a nice audience, but not enough people were actually watching it on SyFy to make the network happy.

I've been slowly watching this, I've started season 2 and the show has improved. I'm getting into it. Best of all....

Thomas Jane got rid of that STUPID haircut which looks great on 19 year old girls but isn't so hot for 40+ guys.
I am growing my hair out for that hairstyle.

Bummer. Well at least they got to season 3. Stargate Universe had a paltry 2 seasons before its untimely demise. Very painful to see a great show get scrapped.

Just what is SyFy’s fascination with cancelling good shows? Do they need the money to make another Sharknado or something?

Every network cancels some shows and keeps others. Syfy is keeping a number of excellent shows, like The Magicians and Killjoys. It's already been explained that its reasons for cancelling The Expanse are monetary -- its contract with the production company does not allow it to make enough profit from the show to compensate for the expense of airing it. If they'd had a better contract, they'd have kept the show, but they didn't. Why not ask why The Expanse's production company didn't sell them the digital rights? Why blame it on the network instead of the other negotiating partner? It takes two (at least) to make a contract.
