Nixon for companion (SPOILERS)

I want Delaware as a companion. It'd be nice to have someone around for the action again. The first Doctor had Ian, who while he may have been a teacher, did all the heavy lifting in the action department. It'd be nice to have an American as a companion for awhile. And it'd be nice to have someone from a different time period as a companion for awhile. All things the old show did at different times in it's run.

Nowadays I think the odd's of us seeing another Zoe, Jamie, Victoria, Vicki, Leela, etc, are slim to none. I'd like them to start varying up the companions a bit more.

Yeah I'd love to see Delaware again!

I think that Nixon should be a companion. I mean besides the obvious stain of Watergate, Nixon had some great accomplishments during his presidency. Apollo 11, China, Ending Vietnam, etc.

That's a pretty big "exception."

And he expanded Vietnam before he ended it. Invasion of Cambodia, anyone?

And prolonged the war by years if you believe that he derailed the Paris Peace Accords in the last days of the Presidential election in 1968.

The only context where these words are ever spoken :p

Not Nixon but I definitely want Delaware as a companion. Anything with more Mark Sheppard is always a good thing!

Well, Delaware's almost certainly coming back. Either that, or the Doctor told him to bring the gasoline in a cut scene :-)

Maybe it was on his invite? Come at this time and bring gasoline. I will really be dead.

Also, his only contribution to Apollo 11 was that asked for a phone call from the moon - it was already within six months of launch, so the only thing he could have done was let NASA continue as planned (well, he could have cancelled it).
He did later cancel the Apollo programme in favour of the shuttle, but it's not really his fault that the shuttle then got underfunded, so it could never deliver on the intention.

Doesn't the Doctor say to Canton "see you next time" or something similar? Unless "next time" is when he tells W Morgan Sheppard's Canton to bring gasoline, I feel confident we'll be seeing Mark Sheppard's Canton again.

The North Vietnamese wouldn't even come back to the table until Nixon escalated the war. When he ordered the bombing of Soviet ships in North Vietnam's harbors, the Soviet's pushed the North to reenter the talks. Johnson should never have gone soft and bowed to public pressure. Also, good on Nixon for perusing the Viet Cong into Cambodia. We looked like fools letting them attack our forces, then stopping at the border. Nutty way to fight a war.
I'm just thankful that they let Nixon be played more like he really was (in the early days of his presidency), as opposed to a caricature as he usually is.

Better idea: Order the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Vietnam years upon assuming the Presidency. It was their goddamn civil war and we never should have gotten involved in the first place.

We do have TNZ for a reason. We can keep this discussion Who related. I thought the actor who played Nixon did a good job personally. He seemed believable as Nixon throughout.

So, River told the Doctor that the space suit could hack into the phone lines, and that's how the little girl was able to call Nixon, since he was the highest authority.

Anyone else wonderin' if the Doctor would have gotten the calls if he'd landed the Tardis sooner? or if they had continued after the Doctor got into the Oval Office?
