Nintendo 3DS announced

who writes that Nintendo "plans to give the new system a 3-D joystick and a force feedback mechanism that will let players feel the collisions of a game character."

The Japanese news outlet also says Nintendo is "considering" adding an accelerometer for tilt-controlled games

Well, so much for playing DS games in bed. It was fun while it lasted.

yawn... wake me when the 3ds lite/sp comes out... you know, the one that will fix all the problems that are in the first one that shouldn't have been there from the start

Don't forget about the super 3SD plus++ add-on that will give you the 3d that you were expecting at launch.

Yeah, they've since announced that it will be playable at E3, so it's been in development for a long time.

If anything, they sort of predicted that 3D would be the next big thing and lucked out with Avatar doing so well.

Until someone breaks one open or leaks pictures, I don't think anyone will know for sure. Probably something in between though - but really, the DSi has upgrades that DSi-only games could take advantage of... just no one is willing to take that leap.

I'd almost say it was certain that this was a whole new system. But then we saw with the Wii, they could just repackage their last system with some new control method and call it a day. But with 3d they're going to have to render two angles per screen which would go up to 4 total if both screens are 3d. (I doubt it.) That's going to take more power I'm sure.

Reading online about no glasses 3d, it'll be interesting if they could pull it off well. From what I've read the effect on a 3d computer monitor kind of strains the eyes and isn't that impressive. The best looking option is the one that NVidia uses since their glasses literally just block every other frame for each eye so you don't end up with color distortion, but you need the glasses. Hopefully it's not something where you have to view the 3ds at a very specific distance to get the effect to work. Who wants to go back to the days of the original gameboy advance, where you had to run around to find a place where the screen was actually visible.

Lets just hope it is better than Nintendo's last 3D system.

Meh. I would have been content with a hardware upgrade. The DS has become my favorite system. My PS2 is pretty much collecting dust and I don't own a PS3 or 360 (probably will have to get one someday to play FFXIII). But the DS has become home to classic JRPGs (which I love) and I'm with Kelthaz and playing in bed.

I just have a problem with the whole 3D thing. I'm really susceptible to migraines and have found, in my limited exposure, 3D is bad. I haven't even seen Avatar yet--didn't even want to bother. And the other day had to leave AIW because I became violently nauseous. And I was on a date. :(

But I do get the piracy thing. I was victim to the bootleg DQV (one of the more infamous ones). that I actually bought used from Game Stop. I was mad as fuck about it, of course, but luckily there's a well documented bug related to the bootleg that I showed them and they gave me a brand new one no charge (and $15 of credit).

It was nice and all, but it should have never happened.
