In case there are niners in this subforum who haven't followed Starfleet Academy yet: You may wanna see episode 5 tomorrow.

Minor spoiler, already shown in trailer/teaser:
The photonic cadet is investigating what happened to Ben Sisko!

Major spoiler:
Cirroc Lofton appears as holographic Jake, and confirms that his dad did return to him at some point!

Reviews have mentioned the episode is also full of DS9 eastereggs.

“When he was married to Kassidy it was the happiest months of their lives”

The Defiant was destroyed
The Breen joined the Dominion and attacked San Francisco

It's almost like happiness is not defined just by circumstances. Viktor Frankl might have some thoughts on that idea.

I'm in a unique spot. I always liked DS9 but not to the point where I considered myself a Niner. But after having reviewed four seasons in a Re-Watch Thread, now I'm a Niner.

And I was a huge Discovery Fan (yeah, yeah, I know, like I've said before: we're going to agree to disagree), but that hasn't transferred over to SNW, S31, or SFA.

So, now I'm a Niner with a mixed opinion of SFA. What I think of this particular SFA episode will be interesting. I haven't gotten around to putting it on yet.

All I can say is: I hope Sisko eventually returned -- to his own time -- and didn't abandon Kassidy or their baby. If they do that, we're good. I'll binge the rest of the season at the end. If they don't do that... well, it's been a nice up-and-down five-episode ride for Starfleet Academy and I.

Simple as that.

I watched it. It stunk. Sorry. The DS9 parts were ok but not enough to save this silly goofy stinker for me. DS9 deserved a better tribute. Whatever... 😏
It really was just poorly written.

I could honestly probably get along with plenty of the weird silly ideas, but writing has just gotten so unbelievably awful that I these ideas are never going to pan out well.

Was there some reason they weren't allowed to use Avery Brook's likeness in this episode!? Anytime "The Sisko" was shown his face was in shadow or in the children's book it was from behind.

I think it would have been cool if somehow this episode INVOLVED the Prophets - maybe SAM could have visited a REAL Orb in a museum and had a vision of a Prophet appearing as Jake and telling her that Sisko returned but lived in secret of Bajor and the Bajoran Kai and the Bajoran government helped him live in SECRET with his family...

I am curious if that DS9 uniform was screen worn, and if amy of the props were ACTUAL props from the show.

The baseball could not have been the baseball. According to Behr, the baseball was supposed to have reserved for Brooks when the show ended, the only prop he requested, but it was stolen.

I just watched it. I'll cut-and-paste what I already said over in the SFA Forum:

The story with the adults didn't do it for me. The story with the kids, I'm not the audience for.

The DS9 elements, I liked SAM's research into Sisko, and her learning about him and DS9. The scenes with Jake were great. But, and it's a big but, I'm not thrilled with the idea that Sisko never returned. And I don't like that Anslem was never published.

That was horrible.

They IMPLICITLY went against Avery Brooks wish.
Original ending of DS9, Sisko went away to the Celestial Temple, Never to return. Avery Brooks Vetoed this idea. He knew he was a role model for people, and DID NOT want to be a dead beat dad to his wife and unborn daughter, so they had the Hopeful ending of I'll be back in a year, or Yesterday line.
YET 27 years latter.. No. Never returned. Deadbeat dad.
WHY? Made Kirk an Absentee Father ( Not a dead beat, he knew of the kid, but "respected" Carols wishes) Made Picard another Absentee Father, because Beverly was a NSFW word and didn't tell him. NOW THIS? WTH?? This is so Crap of writing!!
