Nimoy's Salary?

I don't know, but it had to be a lot considering how much praise he gives this movie. I honestly don't see anything praise worthy about this film, well, except for Karl Urban. I'll praise his performance. But that's it. Everything else is just &$%^, and you'd be surprised how some people can change their view on something with the right $ amount.

His role was more than a walk on, so minimum multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars. And yes, there was most likrly a clause in Nimoy's contact stating that he would only say nice things about the movie. Of course he also said that no amount of money would get him to do another one, oart of that is (I believe) his wish to retire.

there are people that manage to turn anything into a reason to bash this movie...

No, it's completely true. And don't forget the 94% of the nation's critics who were also paid off for their reviews. I, myself, receive five hundred dollars a week to go on the internet and pretend I liked the movie.

lol - holy shit, that just made me spit take - excellent work, sir.

Some people live to hate because without hate they have nothing. If you're smart, you can turn that into a talk radio career. If you're stupid, you just bitch and moan on the internet 24/7. :)

Since you're an ensign, you probably weren't here when Enterprise and Battlestar Galactica had haters who would watch every single episode to tell everyone how right they were to hate it.

I was here, reading. I decided just recently to sign in and post, partly because of Star Trek XII.
and I know this phenomenon from other boards too..
it just amazes me every time

Well, technically they are right about their reasons to hate it because.....they have a right to hate it? Now if they're saying that you should hate it for the same reasons, I guess that's where things get iffy.

If you really wanted to see real online buggers, you should have seen trekmovie.com when they used to dedicate entire posts to Battlestar Galactica. That was memorable.

Just curious. I'm interested in the business side of things and was wondering how much he was valued by Paramount for this role.

How much he is "valued" by Paramount has absolutely nothing to do with it if, in retirement, he read the JJ film's script and wanted to do it. Which is what happened.

DeForest Kelley insisted on being paid only the regular scale for his cameo in TNG because he did it as a favour for Gene Roddenberry and DC Fontana. He could have held out for much, much more for his final appearance as McCoy, especially since he had to be buried under SPFX makeup.

Nimoy could have gracefully refused JJ's script, just how he refused "Generations". The praise he heaped onto this new production is surely genuine, and not related to salary or cash bribes. Just remember, this is the guy who wrote "I Am Not Spock",steadfastly refused to take part in "ST Phase II", and later followed his first book with "I Am Spock". His passion for acting and the Spock character permeates those books and there's no way he'd need to come out of retirement to do Spock one more time unless he was 100% behind the role.

I agree to a degree. He knew the franchise needed a boost, saw this as the way to do it - and as a way he could help do it! I for one distinctively don't expect to see him in a Trek production again. But I'm still young, older Trekkies will certainly say Never Say Never with Nimoy...

But researching into the salary thing. I haven't found a number, but around the internet suggests its a few hundred thousand to near a million - but that's the high end of estimates. (Link)

I did find this weird story about Nimoy and Saldana playing some movie kareoke game that I guess went badly, lol??

This stuff is like a state secret, what's really not on the internet these days... ugh.. But for comparison purposes though, I did find Nimoy's net worth was approxamatly 45 million dollars. For more comparison, Nimoy was paid $1,250 and episode of TOS. :bolian:

I remember during TOS movies that Nimoy and Shatner were getting $6 million each (if I remember correctly ) for TVH. I would imagine that Nimoy doesn't need the money. However, not needing it and feeling valued are two different things. Robert Duval was not in Godfather III for 1 reason: They didn't want to pay him what he wanted. Now, whether or not he was truly behind the story that Coppola wanted to tell wasn't enough to get him in the movie. Unfortunately, we got George Hamilton instead.

At the end of the day, it's a business. I was just curious as to how much the studio valued Nimoy. Obviously, Abrhams, Orci and Kurtzman needed him to tell their story.

I'm sure JJ made sure a comfortable salary was offered to Mr. Nimoy. However, given Nimoy's intimate familiarity with how these movies are made (having made 2 himself) I wouldn't be surprised if he was compensated somewhat with a back-end percentage of the gross profits. I believe Connery was paid this way for his last few films and he made more on them than he did over the rest of his career combined.
