Nimoy's Ballad of Bilbo Baggins

Giggling Gein

Cadet
Newbie
When I stumbled upon this gem last night, I at first feared that I had accidently ingested some acid. As I watched, and the reality of the video began to sink in, I become strangely enthralled. Now all day I've had this song stuck in my head. I find myself rewatching the video again and again. When I watch it I feel weird, but also kinda good. How can anything this awful also be so awesome? Could this be a universe ending paradox?

Nope, nothing wrong there; the song really isn't bad at all. Be sure to also check out Nimoy's Highly Illogical and the instrumental Music To Watch Space Girls By. Great tunes.

I'm saddened that my current lack of a turntable denies me the ability to listen to Nimoy's double album "Outer Space, Inner Mind."

Or not.

Any time my friends mention Bilbo Baggins I always sing the "Bilbo Baggins..... ONLY THREE FEET TALL!" and then everyone gets all indignant with me and says that Elijah Wood was taller than that.

I love this song so much! One of my friends sent it to me before I was into Star Trek, and I thought it was fantastic. The video is... eh, it's funny, in a Spock's Brain kind of way.

Anyway, everything Leonard Nimoy does is awesome; this is indisputable fact

For those of you who are interested, Nimoy's song (and animated Nimoy himself) is featured in this LotR parody from several years ago: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/88286

In a question-and-answer session with Nimoy at a recent convention, one of the guests asked Nimoy to sing a few bars of this for us. Gracious as ever, Nimoy did so -- and gave us the whole story of how it came about. It was the high point of the afternoon!

RapidNadion, that is so cool! Any chance that someone might have put it up on youtube? You're so lucky to have been present. Nimoy is such a good sport!

It looks like YouTube user "valoscope" has posted the whole Q&A session on YouTube in 7 parts:

I'm not going to search for which part it's in right now, but I'll tell you folks, if you have some spare time, it's worth it. Even watching Part I is great, because you can see Nimoy being honored by the city of Boston (the convention was in Boston, and the day I went was declared "Leonard Nimoy Day" by the mayor that morning).

This was from New England Fan Experience 2009, which happened a couple months back.

I'm not going to search for which part it's in right now,

Okay, I lied. :)

It's in part 4 of 7, starting at the 6:40 mark. Priceless. The question asker poses his question in a hilariously understated way, as well - I cracked up when I figured out where he was going (as did most of the audience, as you'll hear).

EDIT: he actually talks about how the project came to be from the 6:40 mark to the end of that clip, and sings a (very) little bit of it at the top of part 5. Hilarious all the way around.

I'm so playing this at my cousin's wedding ;)

:guffaw: That's so funny!!!!

Thanks for the info. I can't wait to check it out!

Before I joined this place, I had no idea this, er, jewel existed. I went a little :wtf:, then , and this was when someone posted this:
