Nimoy on the Colbert Report!

Tralah

Wasting Time Until May 2009
Fleet Captain
Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but my searches turned up nothing. I was pleasantly surprised to see Leonard Nimoy as the guest on the Colbert Report tonight. It was a fun interview even though I was a little disappointed that Star Trek wasn't mentioned at all. Anyway, just thought some people might appreciate the heads up!

That's OK. Star Trek got mentioned last week during Colbert's Third Annual Ethnic Minute (which was also the first one he's ever done).

He did give the Vulcan ssalute to the audience as they went to commercial.

Nimoy did? Oh darn I must have looked away right then! I'll have to rewatch it online! hehe

Try this link
Direct to the Colbert / Nimoy interview. Good stuff. Nimoy seems really healthy and vibrant in the interview. Bonus: You can see his eyebrows are still half-shaved from being Spock. :vulcan:

I got the same "Loading" flash page and then the page with the clips, same as before, but it wouldn't finish loading --- just hung there saying "Waiting for comedycentral" or whatever. This time, I hit refresh and the clip came right up. :)

It's a good interview -- sounded like they managed to hit all the points about the book and Nimoy seemed to be having a great time.
:D

I tried to do the direct link from below the video the first time, and it went to a completely different page, so I just went back to the Colbert page and linked that.

Their URLs are really hit and miss. The direct link seems to be working now though.

That's a good link! The Comedy Central one cut off too early, so you don't get to see Nimoy give the audience the Vulcan salute at the end.

I'm so looking forward to seeing him play Spock again! :)

What I find funny is that Americans seem to have no problem to pronounce Colbert with a silent "T", but call Picard Picard! Why is that?

I especially found it interesting that Nimoy feels teenage girls aren't having enough intercourse. Stephen could've jumped all over that one; I'm surprised he didn't.

Perhaps it is pronounced differently when dubbed for other languages, but in the original English, Star Trek TNG's Picard has a pronounced "d" at the end.

I know it seems obvious, but I figure there's got to be a reason Belar thinks it should not have a pronounced "d." Either that or I missed the joke... wouldn't be the first time.

Yeah, and that's exactly my point: There shouldn't be a pronounced "D" at the end of his name. Well, not if he is supposed to be French. Because in French the last letter of a word is not pronounced.

Because Steven Colbert has made it very clear that he will hurt us if we pronounce it wrong. But Picard is an ole granny, who's afraid of him? He wouldn't even scare John Stewart.

Plus, that's how Picard pronounced his own name. Complain to him. :rommie:

Also ask him why he has a British accent.

If my memory from high school French class serves, that's not correct. Some ARE pronounced. (The letters c, r, f and l.) D's not on the list but "Picar" seems, I dunno, awkward.

And it's the 24th C! By rights they should be speaking some language as bizarre to us as we would be to Shakespeare. Pronunciation could have changed significantly by then.

Besides, we in the USA have to accede to Stephen's wishes because he is America (and so can you).
