Nickname for the movie: Delta

Delta?

We should call it Star Trek Delta?

Yeah. I can't wait to go see STD.
Now I didn't think of that.

Captain Kirk, starring in STDs.

DeafPoet, thanks for pointing out that the name is now official. I'll go back to my original idea then. The movie is called Star Trek. The abbreviation is ST.

We've really got to drop ST:XI in favor of either Delta or simply ST.

Why? "Star Trek" isn't very useful as a distinction from other Star Trek movies and "Delta" doesn't make any sense to me. Regardless of what the actual name of the movie is, it's the 11th Star Trek movie, so calling it such is convenient.

Call it whatever you want though, noone's stopping you.

You're right. ST isn't particularly useful because of the myriad meanings it could have. Trek XI has suited me fine so far. Star Trek obviously works since the only other thing you could be referring to is TOS... which clearly already has a designation. Maybe ST?

Goldbug's comment is a great example of what I'm talking about.

We are NOT "pathetic" to A)seek out an online forum pertinent to something we are interested in and then B)POST TOPICS ON THAT FORUM.

If anything, it's pathetic to continue bitching and moaning about how pathetic it is to be bitching and moaning about threads related to STAR TREK.

It's akin to kicking in the door to a whore house and loudy proclaiming, "Alright, that's enough fucking!!!"

ST

Does anyone not know what I am talking about in any instance?

The new movie is called Star Trek. The appropriate abreviation fits in nicely with all the established shorthand. Anyone who is confused can pick up which incarnation is being referred to via context.

Superman, I can assure you, that I am not here to troll or open 'joke threads' (I am quite happy, that this season seems to be off, for the time being and with all the new infos coming in).
And, to be honest, I am quite excited to go see a new Trek-movie this Christmas, but only as excited as the next guy. The thing I can't grasp is how, even a year before it hits theatres, people are obsessing about some really obscure minutiae or if the Shat will be in the movie or aking up names (Trek08 or Trek XI seem to be naming it accurately enough and are already well accepted around here). Hence, my... well, dissatisfaction with this thread.

Well, I think you have to understand that:

a) Not much in the way of information, pictures, etc have been released related to this film; and
b) People are really excited and want to talk about it anyway.

Those two facts, combined with the fact that most Trek fans are...well...a wee bit obsessive/compulsive to begin with sorta makes for exactly what we have here.

If you plan on hanging around here, I would expect more of the same if I was you. You may as well get used to it. ;)

Used to it I am already, hanging around various Trek-themed boards, but still, playing the voice of 'reason' (from my humble perspective, anyways ;) ) may not be the worst thing to do. In a most polite manner, I assure you.

Point 1: Blaxx? Is that really you? Word! Whatup?

Point 2: This is an important discussion. The Enterprise fan community was undermined by their inability to settle on a nickname as the Niners did. I know NX'ers was thrown around for awhile, but I haven't seen that in years, and it was generally just a hassle to type out the full name of things. Particularly with this movie, which already shares a name with every other property in the history of the franchise, so we have to type out the phrase, "the new movie" or "Abrams' new Star Trek film" or "Star Trek (2008)". A four-letter abbreviation would be wildly preferable.

Plus, it's something to talk about between trailers.

Point 3: Dale has a point, but I generally abbreviate the franchise as a whole as ST. So it seems to me that that's already in use. "nuTrek" will be over my dead body. I quite like the ring of "Delta", but the odds of it catching on are roughly zero, particularly as we seem to have the name already. Ditto to "Under Construction." So I'm satisfied with the four-letter ST08.

I actually do that.. It gets quite a laugh down there, sometimes a nice discount!!

I think then I'd go with ST because as Dale Hoppert pointed out, all the other incarnations already have other abreviations.

But I also have another idea: How about Eleven? Or simply 11?

Well Star Wars code name was Blue Harvest, we have learned from the trek welder interview recently that this movies code name was 'Corporate Headquarters' .

This thread has inspired me. Henceforth I shall call it Star Track: Eleventeen. Or "George." Not really sure yet.
