Nicholas Meyer Discusses Discovery

Haven't watched the video but I would assume that, if Meyer is indeed discussing it here despite no official announcement, then the project is dead and buried.
I would hope so, but to be honest I would not put it past them to unofficially announce the next show in such a way.

Oh dear god, Midnights Edge is GARBAGE, seriously anyone who listens to them and the crap they spew needs a slap back to reality.

They make it up, fill their videos with half-truths and lies.

Their "inside" sources are known to be disgruntled with CBS/Paramount ever since the new Star Trek films came out, these people are known to all big Star Trek groups across social media as people who peddle falsehoods so much so they have been banned by all major fan groups on Facebook and are not taken seriously outside of their little group.

Midnights Edge have “reported” and got wrong –

*They said DSC would be cancelled mid-season 1 - it wasn't.

* They said CBS All Access was being closed and all of its programs were to be cancelled or put back on regular TV - It wasn't.

* They said when DSC was to be cancelled mid-season 1 it would be replaced by the Nick Myer series - It has not been.

* They said Netflix paid for Season 1 - They did not and in fact, if you knew anything about the deal Netflix did with CBS you would know this was for DISTRIBUTION rights for the ENTIRE Star Trek back catalogue along with ALL seasons of Discovery only nothing more. CBS pay for and make Discovery, there is no third party license involved this is a CBS program made by and paid for by them, no one else. The “Netflix” original stamp put on the show it just as they do with other shows shown on their platform, for example, Riverdale, Black Lightning and many more.

* They said Beyond would never be released as the production team had spent the money elsewhere - IT WAS - and better yet, they continued this garbage right up until release day.

* They say Discovery is a failure if this was true then WHY are we getting not one but TWO new shows, one with Sir Patrick Stewart and the other “lower Decks” animation, with more to come soon, no company in the world would green light two shows off the back of one that is meant to be a disaster, that is not how business work, they like profit, not loss.

These are just Six off the top of my head.

I could watch their videos and pick apart all the crap they have ""reported"" (and I use that term loosely as it is not reporting its let us make crap up from our inane sources and get them clicks) easy, because unlike many who just watch and believe their crap I research things and go to the people who work on the shows etc for my info.

Here is a lesson for anyone - their inside sources are fabricated and do not exist.

NEVER! Believe videos like this, they are set up to troll FB groups with their "inside" CRAP, and gain revenue from the shares and clicks people like you provide and when you call them out on it, they block you and call you a CBS paid shill (I personally would not mind working for CBS, as hey they are a billion dollar company and one of the worlds largest entertainment providers)

There are people like Midnights Edge, Doomcock etc in all fandom’s, they like to think they are more important than they really are, and to achieve this status they make crap up to look like they know more than they do, as fans it is our responsibility to make sure we do not believe them and to call them out on this toxic behaviour, report their videos as fake news and spam and more importantly let others enjoy what they enjoy, do not allow yourself to become a gatekeeper.

To be fair, this one might be a misunderstanding, IIRC someone other then ME said at one point that the amount Netflix paid for the licencing deal essentially paid off the first season.

Sadly, I regard Info Wars with a tiny bit more regard. Mostly because I actually believe that Info Wars believes some of their propaganda, while ME are just trolling "true fans."

I'm half-tempted to post in their Comments Section. "Yes! It's true! I'm a hardcore Discovery Fan! And here to tell you, we're out to completely destroy Star Trek! Eat it!" Only problem is, they wouldn't be able to tell I was being sarcastic. So then they'd come right at me. "How dare you call yourself Lord Garth! Because of Discovery we don't have Axanar! Traitor! Judas!"

I haven't watched many of their other videos. They seem to be mostly videos proclaiming the end of the current Star Trek film franchise. I was hoping for more interviews, I see online tabloid fan "reporting" instead.

I'm not going to watch it because I don't want their videos showing up in my YouTube feed, but is this the one you guys are referring to?

I find it curious that so many people find the Ceti Alpha V story idea unappealing

Khan has been overused as a concept both literally (thanks to STID) and in the many many PseudoKhans that have filled the franchise since TWOK. I think some would rather the franchise moved on, that's all.

Love how ME spin it as a 'replacement' for the 'doubted' series that has spawned this spin off and a bunch of others.

It will be mostly false if its ME

They're not trustworthy and lie a lot.

It's very easy to use editing to distort the apparent meaning of what someone says in an interview -- to take things out of context and make it sound like they support a position they actually reject, e.g. (I'm aware of that being done with the Alien Autopsy special on FOX a couple of decades ago -- an expert who pointed out that the autopsy video was an obvious hoax had his interview edited to make it sound like he was confirming its reality).

No, they outright lie. I mean pure up totally created lies. My fave, they claimed an inside source told them, that DSC was canceled( about 2 months before it aired mined you) and that the studio was in a panic and Meyer's had been brought in the make a new show to replace the failed DSC and maybe save the franchise.

Not a word of that was true

I just regard Midnight's Edge the same way I regard Info Wars.

Okay, you guys are just being ridiculous at this point.

Midnights Edge is not "Infowars", not even "Fox news". It's just a bunch of people rambling about a show. They DO spread unsubstantiated rumors, have their own strong biases, and are IMO just not that fun to watch.

But they are not professional liars, they did an honest to god phone interview with Nicholas Meyer, and that's it. They actually did get some legit behind-the-scenes stuff, but also spread unsubstantiated stuff and their own wild theories without properly distinguishing between them. That's dumb. But you guys insinuating everything about them is a sham is even more ridiculous than what ME does themselves.

Get a fucking grasp on reality.

I agree about PseudoKhans, and perhaps that is a legit point because it magnifies things and creates the perception of overuse, but this would not be a "space vengeance" mini-series, so I'd think that link would be off the table if the character exploration is compelling.

I don't necessarily agree with you that Khan was overused, though. He appeared in one television episode, one TOS feature film, and one Kelvin film (as arguably a completely different character). If you compare that to other recurring villains in Star Trek (Mudd, Q, Duras Sisters, Sela, Borg Queen, etc) his exposure is actually relatively limited-to-nominal.

Respectfully, when your videos are purposely designed to sway fans toward a negative mindset and to try and discredit/influence/bring about failure within the franchise....you deserve the immediate reaction you see here.

They're big enough instigators of negativity and they've spread enough misinformation that I'm afraid they deserve no credit or attention at this point. If they were more responsible about their behavior in the past...then maybe. But frankly their bullshit has been inaccurate to the point of being IRRESPONSIBLE and damaging about 90% of the time.

Sorry, but unless your a meteorologist, that kind of failure rate gets you what you deserve. They absolutely have earned and deserve the reaction/reputation

You know what? If you don't like it, don't watch it.
That's something the STD-hardcore fans usually throw at everyone not liking the show. Why doesn't it apply the other way 'round? I think an interview with Nicholas Meyer is interesting, even if they ask dumb, loaded questions.

And yeah, if you think a commentary show on Youtube can actually "harm" a franchise show on their own - I've got a bridge to sell you. They are making this videos either out of passion, or because they know there's an audience for that. I don't care, I don't like it, but I don't give them the attention either.

But if they actually do interesting stuff (like having the only recent interview with Nicholas Meyer after he was booted off of DIS), they actually deserve that to be aknowledged, as much as they deserve to be criticised when they do stupid stuff.

I didn't watch it. Maybe I should've, but I practice what I preach. :p

One of my best friends IRL though (who doesn't like Discovery at all), I think does follow them, because I keep hearing "Guess what?!" Then a conspiracy theory about DSC in particular or CBS Trek in general.

Most of my Trekkie friends don't have opinions that line up with mine. It's been that way since Day One. So no big deal.

It's different because their material typically attacks and even damages the reputation of the franchise that this message board is dedicated to. They deserve the slap-down they get on this site. And I honestly do think channels like this have the capacity to cause damage.

I didn't say their Meyer interview wasn't potentially interesting. I read the relevant parts from the Trekmovie transcript. I said they are traditionally full of shit, irresponsible, and inaccurate, which are terrible things to be when you are proclaiming yourself a source of reliable information.

Think about the level of reaction you've seen here and consider what I said above. This many people, many of whom are measured and reliable posters on this board, are having this much of a negative reaction to ME. Why? Because they are irresponsible with the franchise we care about.

Thing is with people like Nick Meyer being interviewed then Trekmovie citing them it just adds to their legitimacy when really if they were a tabloid newspaper, I wouldn't wipe my arse with it.
I hadn't realised Meyer had not been invited back for season 2. Explains the ME interview - no official standing anymore, and possibly an axe to grind.

To note their influence, all I did was Youtube Star Trek Discovery and about half of the results that popped up for me were ME videos. That's concerning because that means that's the information curious people are getting.

Precisely. There's true influential power there, even if it's only minor. And they wield it like a bunch of completely manipulative, irresponsible a-holes.

That bothers me.

He'd still be under a NDA but yes it's not like he has anything to loose as long as he's careful as even if they used his mini series scripts it's a work for hire so he'dnot be able to get pissy about them using it and he wpuld still get a credit for it.
