Nicholas Meyer Confirms Upcoming 4K UHD Release Plans for STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN

Apparently just one Classic Trek film is all Paramount can afford to upgrade to 4K at the moment (and while it will be Meyer's director's cut no doubt, don't expect much in the way of new extras). I was startled to hear the studio's in such rough financial shape.

Why do you think that? We didn't get a director's cut release on Blu-ray.

Maybe they will if it sells well.

Would they have Meyer involved if all they were doing was a bare-bones theatrical version? At the very least he'd ask them about it (and would be saying if they weren't).

He's involved with color correction so theyre really making sure it looks right at that resolution.

Hope this gets a blu-ray release too, I'm not ready for UHD yet.

Guessing this is all they'll bother to do, though the rest of the films are in dire need of attention. I've still got the DVDs from fifteen years ago, as I refuse to buy the current film set.

It'll take more than one Trek film to get me to jump into 4K content, even though I have a 4K TV. Especially with the new copy protections for UHD.

Is this really the case, or just Paramount crying poor? From my uneducated POV, it seems ridiculous a major studio can't afford to keep up with the remaster trends, especially when they have actual film to work with (as opposed to TV series' & videotape).

If it includes the Director's Cut I'm in on day one!!!!! If not, I'll stick with the DVD DC.
I already own an inexpensive 4K player ($665.00) and I'd be all too happy to spend $400.00 for a 4K Ultra Blu-Ray player to have TWoK DC in 4K.
