Nice look at Paris apt abandoned since invasion

Caked in dust and full of turn-of-the century treasures, this Paris apartment is like going back in time.

Having lain untouched for seven decades the abandoned home was discovered three years ago after its owner died aged 91.

The woman who owned the flat, a Mrs De Florian, had fled for the south of France before the outbreak of the Second World War.

She never returned and in the 70 years since, it looks like no-one had set foot inside.

Not exactly "news" but the pictures were interesting.

I love that they describe him as having "made the discovery," like it was a hidden tomb deep below the earth's surface. This was in Paris, it's hard to imagine how it went untouched for so long. As there's turnover in the neighborhood you would think someone would either be too curious to leave things be or greedy enough to make a move for the property. It's also hard to believe that she never once returned or tried to sell the property since she obviously wasn't using it.

Just strange all around! But very interesting.

It's Paris, it's usual to not pay attention to the most obvious things.

This appartment is so alike a house where my parents used to work when I was around 3 years old. Same kind of furnitures. Except that was cleaner (my mother was in charge of the housework after all).

I like the Gauloise carton on the 2nd picture.

I just wonder why this wasn't discovered much earlier. One can go 70 years without paying taxes in Paris? Surely, someone would have foreclosed on this a long time ago for unpaid taxes or something?

No one said she wasn't paying her taxes. Actually, articles in French said she was.
Some people are just strange like that.
