NHL Play Off Prediction thread

I have a case of beer riding on tonight's Pens-Flyers game with my buddy who is originally from the Philly area (well, actually the case of beer is riding on the series, but I can win the beer tonight with a Pens' win).

I won a case from this same friend during last season's conference finals.

Go Pens!

Yeah, they really are. But hey, at least this way we don't have to play the Red Wings in round 2. ;)

Swept. Not that it came to complete surprise, but I thought the jackets would be able to pull out one and possibly two games. After all they tended to play Detroit tough this season. But as corny as it sounds, the playoffs are a whole new creature, and the Jackets just got smacked. Still, it's a good lesson to learn, and it was from none but the best.

Give up beer

Go Flyers!
Yeah -- after last night's game (game 5), I have some big doubts about winning that case at all...here's to hoping the Pens can win one of the next two.

The theory behind the case of beer as the "bet" is that the winner could use the beverage to go along with watching the rest of the playoffs.

The Pens, apart from Game 1, haven't looked very good these playoffs. They won games 2 and 4 almost entirely due to Fleury.

I expected them to do better for sure, in fact I called the upset on page one! Boy is my face red....

But it is a learning experience for sure. It really is a completely different game of hockey, the playoffs. The good news is that your core of guys are all solid, those same guys got the experience and with one or two good free agent signings, you'll be back and better than ever next year.

Malkin looked sharp last night -- always being where he needed to be -- but couldn't finish the deal.

AdmiralGarak -- I don't know where you live, but if you watch the games on "FSN Pittsburgh", did you lose the game feed last night sometime near the start of the 2nd period (and it never came back on)?

I was watching "FSN Pittsburgh" on my Comcast cable and it went off. My father in Pittsburgh (about 300 miles away from me) called me to say that his went off, and wanted to know if I could see it. Thankfully the game was on three of my channels last night, so I could watch it on the Comcast Sports Philly Station or "Versus". (I ended up watching "Versus" because I can't stand listening to "homer" Steve Coates on the Philadelphia broadcasts.)

Then again, the loser could use the beverage to drown out his sorrows.

It came back on during the second intermission. Steigerwald eventually appologized, saying that a lightning strike on Fox Sports' main antennae in Atlanta was the culprit. The same thing happened a couple months ago.

We had to listen on radio until it came back. Not that listening to the legendary Mike Lange is a bad thing. Heck, if the radio broadcast was synched up with the tv broadcast, I'd mute the tv and listen to Lange's play-by-play instead.

EDIT-- There's an explanation on the Penguin's homepage.

It remained off the air even after the game was over where I live.

Yeah -- I don't live close enough to "da burgh" to get Mike Lange on the radio. I can stream his radio broadcast in the internet, but that streaming can sometimes be as much as 30 seconds behind the action, so I can't sync it to the TV.

I used to do that with the legendary late great Myron Cope and Steelers games. There are local radio stations that provide the Pittsburgh Steelers radio feed and I would turn down the TV volume and listen to Myron Cope.

If Myron was still with us, I'm sure he would say something like "yoy and double yoy for those Penguins of Pittsburgh!!"

How about this or this?

I don't have either, I've heard them talk about DelayPlay on the Sports station I listen to.

^A bit pricey for such a minor thing. A neat little invention though. One visit to a Penguins forum would find a number of very willing customers. I don't think our tv announcers are too bad though. Florida's announcers, now they're horrible. I can barely stand watching highlights of games that use their broadcasts.

That was the case last time, too. It came back quickly for some satellite/cable providers, and slowly or not at all for some.

BTW-- I love your avatar! Pity the poor goalie that tries to block a Vulcan slapshot.

^
^^Thanks. Actually, I saw your avatar last week and thought to myself that I needed a Penguin Playoff Avatar of my very own...and it wasn't until I was done with it that I realized "Kirk" is wearing the Captain's "C".

Now let's hope that I have reason to keep this avatar for a few weeks.

by Detroit.

Man that was a sweet goal by Ovechkin last night.

[Mike Lange]Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has just left the building![/Mike Lange]

If that didn't remove the "interim" from Dan Bylsma's title, nothing will. I have to give grudging respect for the Flyers though. They out-played Pittsburgh through the majority of the series. MAF is a thief. A brilliant, glorious thief. :D
