NHL Play Off Prediction thread

Tough loss by the Wings tonight. I'll just have to hope for a split in Pittsburgh.

And I don't really understand the fighting rule. The purpose of fights is always to send a message to someone on the other team. But oh well.

Fighting in Hockey never seems to follow any logic. There was one time where two players (I'm drawing a blank on their names, one Flyers player, one Pens player) were fighting. To make a long story short, the Pens player got his ass beat, it wasn't even close. But soon afterwards, the Pens scored a goal. The announcers were talking about how the fight was a huge morale boost. How could it be a morale boost if your player gets beat up? You figure it would be demoralizing for morale.

^ Not necessarily. The team whose player got creamed might get pumped up 'cause they're pissed, and the other team might actually feel a bit over-confident.

HOLY SHIT, I can't believe we just lost 4-2.
Arrogant much?

I, for one, credit the Pens' victory to one unsung hero. Following that horrible second period, down on their luck, the series slipping from their grasp... they spotted a masterful towel waver up in E28 whose leet towel-waving skill rekindled their hearts and spurred them on. That towel-waving Trekkie-ish looking guy was the real hero of the game. Bless him.

That was Pittsburgh's Max Talbot, in Game 6 of the quarterfinals. The Pens were down 3-0 in the 2nd and the Flyers had them on the ropes. The fight woke the Pens up, and they dominated the rest of the game after that quick goal. Go and watch the highlights-- it's pretty clear that the Pens were going nowhere fast until Talbot goaded Carcillo into stupidly dropping the gloves.

Funny, I thought the turn-around was attributable to the Pens hearing, from 300 miles away, a Trekkie-ish looking guy shouting expletives at his television set during the 2nd period. Hmmm.

That's right, it was Talbot. He still got his ass kicked. They definitely woke up, I just don't know how that worked out.

So yeah, at that time he probably was the best player in the NHL - the stats speak for themselves - with only Malkin challenging him. Now, well, he's gotta pick it up.

Yeah, well the "best player in the NHL" is getting completely owned by Henrik Zetterberg.

A better argument could be made for Malkin since he has a solid lead in playoff points and has actually scored a goal against Detroit (unlike Crosby).

It's without a doubt Malkin after that last game, and especially after he pummeled Zetterberg at the end of game 2.

I guess Crosby will just have to settle for second best. I'm sure he can live with it if it brings them wins.

^Seriousness is overrated, Miss Tights. :p

Crosby spent too much time trying to get away from Zetterberg in the first two games. He held his own quite well in game 3 when he spent more time directly squaring off against Zetterberg.

The Pens are going to have to play much better if they want win tonight. Detroit is going to show up playing flawless hockey.

As for Crosby, I think he's lost his confidence this round. He's a young'un with a world of pressure on him, and Zetterburg devours planets: my opinion of Zet has grown immensely this year, which is not to say I didn't think much of him in the past.

But I wouldn't write the Pens off yet. Maybe in, oh... 14 hours I will.

Okay, WTF is this shit?? I'm 2 games away from losing $100. :wtf:

haha, I'm two games away from WINNING $100 and winning another bet in which the losing person has to wear the hat of the winner's team, take a picture and make it their profile picture on facebook until the NHL draft.

I'm so glad I wont have to buy a sissy Pens hat.
HA! Looks like we've got a brand new series! :p

Look on the bright side! This time you could believe that you just lost 4-2!:evil::evil:

I can't believe that the Pens had an extra man on the ice for 30 seconds and the refs magically didn't see it.
We don't need extra men on the ice to smoke Ossy. Staalsy will do it short-handed.:evil::evil:

But seriously... this series is far from over. Pittsburgh has elevated to Detroit's level, but they'll still need to win one in the Joe before Lord Stanley will bring us some brandy. They did it earlier this season, and they did it in the last Finals. If they don't win the next game while Datsyuk is still out or at least playing limited time, they'll be in deep shit.
