NHL Discussion - 2009-2010 Season

Phew!

I'm unclear on a rule here - when O'Brien got mutilated by ButtFuckingUgliens' stick, is it not a penalty because it's a follow through on a shot? Seems he should still have control of his stick. Anyways I guess it doesn't matter becauase we scored on the PP on what looked like a makeup call against ButtFuckingUglien.

Btw, rumor is that Salo has a ruptured testicle. Damn, poor guy. :(

^ Yeah I'm not sure about the rule either. I personally think it should have been a double minor, but hey I'm not a ref. Though I often think I'd do a better job. But yeah, I agree that the penalty on ButtFuckingUglien (love the name btw) was to make up for the no-call on the high stick.

And according to the Canucks.com forum, Salo's testicle is OK. That's still gotta hurt like a bitch though. I got a handball to the groin once and that hurt like hell. Hopefully he'll be alright and will be able to play in game 6.

And Ben Eager is just such a fucking asshole for trying (and succeeding) to re-open O'Brien's wound. I was really good to see that O'Brien didn't fall for it.

Well good for him, I was really hoping it wasn't as bad as it sounded. Knowing Salo though, he probably won't be back. Time for Nolan Baumgartner to answer the call and lead us to the promised land!!

I thought that was Andrew Ladd, living up to his billing of being a coward, made by Kesler?

The Hawks are cheap though, way worse than they were last year, and have seem to have gotten quite the free pass on their antics.

You should see the consipracy theories flying around here that the league doesn't want the Nucks to win and are instructing the officals to do everything in their power to make that happen. Sometimes I even find myself considering it, given how uneven and inconsistent the calls being made are.

Is great officiating too much to ask for?

I didn't see anything worth penalizing Byfuglien for. Shit happens. It's a serious stretch to say he was intentionally trying to hit someone on the follow through of his swing. It's incidental contact, no different than if he had hit O'Brien with his shot. Same deal with Kunitz's skate slashing Gill's when they collided Saturday.

Don't. You know the people that think NASA faked the moon landing or that refuse to believe Obama's Honolulu birth certificate? They laugh their fucking heads off at hockey conspiracy theorists.

As long as he's healthy, I think Rome will play before Baumer.

And you're right, it was Ladd and not Eager. The game started at 2am over here, so my brain wasn't working quite right at the time of the game. ;)

The Hawks definitely are cheap. All they need to do to "improve" their line-up are Avery and Phaneuf.

And I know all about the conspiracy theories. I frequently visit the canucks.com forum and some of the guys there are a bit nuts.

The reffing has been terrible though. I don't know why... but it's definitely been terrible. I can understand refs making mistakes, but when they always hurt one team and benefit the other, you start to notice a trend.

My understanding is that it was on the follow through, and O'Brien's head was down and leaning into the path of the stick.

If his head had been up and the follow through clipped him, it should be a penalty because that's not a reasonable hockey play.

60.1 High-sticking - A “high stick” is one which is carried above the height of the opponent’s shoulders. Players and goalkeepers must be in control and responsible for their stick. However, a player or goalkeeper is permitted accidental contact on an opponent if the act is committed as a normal windup or follow through of a shooting motion. A wild swing at a bouncing puck would not be considered a normal windup or follow through and any contact to an opponent above the height of the shoulders shall be penalized accordingly.

Nuts.

Montreal takes it to game 7 now; my prediction of Montreal in 7 is either going to be right or very close.

Whatever they sold to the Devil, they got a great bargain.

I'd imagine the Frozen peas treatment was recommeded

Boooo, lets go Pens!

I went to the Giants game tonight, and personally wished Dany Heatley and Ryane Clowe good luck. Closest I've ever been to an athlete and they seemed like cool guys. That little handshake was really the highlight of the evening for me.

Looking forward to this series. Only reasonable that the two best teams in the conference battle it out for the overall winner. I'm a little fearful of Chicago mainly because they played the Sharks really hard this season and the Sharks had some pretty bad games against them. Still, what I do like about this series is I have great respect for the Blackhawks and if the Sharks are eliminated, I hope Chicago wins it all.

I want to see an original six cup final so go Hawks, Bruins and Canadians. I think the last time this happend was 78-79. Wow thats a long time.

Luongo is a choker, not worth the huge contract he signed.

Before I get flamed out of existence and told how "he won the gold medal game, so he's the number one goalie!", just remember he had a super star team in front of him. There's a difference between Scott Niedermayer/Drew Doughty and Kevin Bieksa/Shane O'Brien.

Until he can win a Cup, he'll be a choker in my eyes.

^ He was also playing against the best players in the world, keep that in mind, and finished with a 1.76GAA. Not too shabby.

But yeah, I'd trade that gold medal for a Stanley Cup any day.

I don't think Luongo was our problem though. The Canucks' blue line and to a lesser extent the 3rd and 4th line are really what's the matter with this team. Sure, our Dmen were decimated by injury, but what we were left with wasn't so great. Bieksa has got to go, as does Mitchell (who I love, but you don't want someone that concussed coming back), and I think Salo's time is up. Shane O'Brien showed that he can game in these playoffs, but he's not a 3rd or 4th guy - if you have O'Brien as your 5th or 6th, you're laughing. Andrew Alberts should be shot. Edler you hang on to, same with Ehrhoff. But I think some serious tinkering with free agency and/or trades needs to be done on the back end.

Our 3rd and 4th line lack grit and scoring - take a look at Chicago's same lines. That's what you want. Gritty, in your face and chip in more than occasionally with a goal.

Pavol Demitra is the biggest bust in Canucks' history, I was against the signing when it happened and I'm filled with murderous rage now.

I'm unsure on Coach V. I think he's a very decent coach but I find myself wondering if he has what it takes to put us over the top.

Montreal is making a bloodbath out of this game 7. Those Penguins look terrified at the end of period 1!!

Sid the Kid in the box 10 seconds in... first goal 32 seconds in for MTL... just insane
