NHL 2011/2012 Season

Toronto's game against Boston was not good. Boston was due for a win, TO for a loss but 6-2 was pretty brutal. What's with Kessel not being able to get it going against his old team? And what's with Gustavsson? Yeah, he faced 40+ shots and I didn't see the game so I don't know how much was his fault vs the teams but they just never seem to play well with him in net.

Ah well, maybe tonight they can get it going again against Montreal. And the MacArthur-Grabovski-Kulemin line needs to get going soon. So far, about 75% of the production is coming from Kessel's line alone.

^ I think the issue with Kessel and Boston is how closely they cover him. Especially when they're in Boston, as the Bruins are able to throw out Chara every time he's on the ice, which doesn't give Phil much room to work. Hopefully he and the team will bounce back tonight!

Well, it was a win but not pretty. Grabovski's line scored twice which is good but Reimer left with an injury and Gustavsson, despite getting the win in relief, nearly lost it. Nine goals against in two games is pretty damned alarming. I feel bad for the guy but his stats since coming to the NHL have been shit.

Sharks are slowly showing signs of improvement on this road trip. Great wins in both New Jersey and Boston. They still have some work to do (And the passing can get better) but compared to last week when people on another board I visit were ready to jump off a cliff, the effort is a lot better.

I wonder if we might see Scrivens start in Monday's game? If there's ever a time to conduct that experiment, it's got to be while the team has had a hot start and while Gustavsson looks weak.

It could be about time to ship Gustavsson out. He just doesn't haven't the confidence to rebound in Toronto. This team hasn't played well in front of him in two years.

If you bring up Scrivens or Rynnas and they have a couple good games, the team will be confident whether they or Reimer is in net.

There's no way for us to know how much of his play has been affected by his health (a fair bit you'd think) and how much is that he just isn't up for the NHL. Either way though, he certainly isn't the #1 goalie he was touted to be but he isn't even a competent backup.

^ Wow, 9-8. :D Tanner Glass with three points, good for him. :)

Yup, Antropov too. His goal was beautiful. Jets power play just started, face-off to the left of the Flyers goalie and no one covering Antropov. He gets the puck, goes to the other side of the goalie and pops it in. 3 seconds into the power play. I think it was the 5th goal.

Also, I love this quote from Ladd about the game:
Ladd compared the result to a video game.

"It was like Blades of Steel out there," he said.

As someone who still has that game and the NES to play it on, I heartily agree. :D

Pilot error has been blamed in the crash that killed the Lokomotiv team in Russia earlier this year.

As the plane took off from the central Russian city of Yaroslavl two months ago, one of the pilots accidentally pressed down the brakes, the Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) said in a report published on its website.
"The direct cause of the crash of the Yak-42 plane . . . were the mistaken actions of the crew in pressing the brake pedals," said MAK, an expert body that investigates air disasters in former Soviet republics.

The report was the latest in a series to blame air crashes on human error rather than aging Soviet-designed aircraft.
It said the pilots could have committed the error of putting their feet on the brake pedals during takeoff because they were more used to flying another plane with that foot position.
The aircraft, built in 1993 and operated by the small Yak-Servis airline, overran the airstrip, wheeled for a further 450 metres (about 1,500 feet) before finally taking off.
The aircrew could have aborted the takeoff and stopped safely within the runway, the report said.

We'll never know what the real fault was. It's easy to blame a pilot who is no longer alive. I could have been pilot error, it could have been poor maintenance, could have been a lot of things.

The Leafs won again. I'm not used to this. 2nd in the league right now. Lupul gets a hat trick, he and Kessel are tearing it up no matter who their centerman is. Grabovski's line seems to have found their groove again and the team is winning even with Gustavsson in net.

Hehehe. Outshot 39-18 and they win 4-1. Scrivens finally gets a game in and makes 38 saves. Had Gustavsson started he'd have given up at least 3 goals.

And if the Leafs had a PP or a PK they'd be dangerous. Oh wait... they're currently sitting 1st overall in league standings... Hope San Jose beats Pittsburgh so that ranking lasts for more than just three hours. :D

The Oilers have suddenly become a defensive juggernaut. I expected them to be a fun team with the amount of kids but I also expected a 3.5 GAA.

Stanley Cup final = Edmonton vs Toronto?!! Book it!! :bolian:

Edmonton is indeed off to an amazing start. And that would make a nice Cup final.

But wow! Does Boston ever have Toronto's number. They're stinking it up so far this season but they've slapped the Leafs around in their two meetings this year. 7-0 tonight! And Kessel still can't do squat against his old team.

Out of all teams to score his first hat trick against, Seguin has to do it against Toronto. :bolian:
