NHL 2011/2012 Season

I'm down to watching about 30 minutes of whatever game is on with my daughter before her bedtime. Strangely, it mellows her out.

Well, with LA, Phoenix, NYR and New Jersey being the four teams left...

Maybe LA because it would be funny to see Carter and Richards win it with a new team after being traded. See? I'm really reaching just to find an angle to that's even slightly interesting for me.

Yeah, it's really boring.

There was an article about whether the Flyers were smart to trade them. The obvious answer is that they probably wouldn't have won in Philly and are playing behind good goaltending out there (exactly the motivation to trade them, so we could sign Bryz).

But they're good guys, so I hope they win.

Hunter stepping down is no shocker; it'll be interesting to see who lands there next.

I'd be happy with seeing either Western team win it all. Just imagine the mindfuck if the Phoenix Coyotes are Stanley Cup champions with Mike Smith in net.

Yeah, Hunter owns the London Knights OHL club here in my town and he apparently is more interested in that than coaching in the big league. To each their own.

Phoenix winning... At this point, I don't care who wins but I'd rather see LA win. Phoenix shouldn't even have a hockey team. If Phoenix does win I'm sure some anti-Bettman conspiracy theorists will say it was rigged so he could prove hockey in the desert works.

Talk about leaving it all on the ice, eh?

Always good for a giggle when mistakes like that make it on the air.

And despite a dislike of LA that goes back to '93 I think I'd like to see them win it. Their playoff record really is nothing short of amazing this year. I believe they're currently 10-1. Pretty good for an 8th seeded team.

The NHL gave notice to the NHLPA today that it intends to "terminate and / or modify" the CBA when it expires on September 15.

This isn't terribly surprising, because the union intends to go to the mat regarding the salary cap, and the league wants to keep the cap down. It's still distressing, though. I want to say that there won't be another work stoppage, that both sides realize how bad that would be for everyone involved, but at the same time, if they can't come to an agreement then who knows what will happen? The NHL operates in such a bizarre way that it wouldn't be shocking to see them have their third work stoppage in under 20 years. The key sticking points will almost certainly be the revenue split, the union arguing that the cap floor is too low, owners arguing that the cap rising too fast, and participation in the Olympics (which will just be a sideshow bargaining chip). There's also that incredibly stupid realignment plan, I guess.

I've been pretty strongly in favor of keeping the salary cap down, but if this edition of the play-offs is the result of parity? Let's just say I'm rethinking my position.

Also, I'm glad Doan said something about the officiating; more players and coaches need to do so, I'd be happier if he'd also said, "And of course, we don't beat Chicago or Detroit with a fair ice surface ..."

Kings in 6, though I wouldn't be at all shocked if it went 7 or the Devils pulled it out. This will be a very even series in my opinion.

I'd be more interested in revenue sharing for the league. Sure a salary cap creates parity, but the poor teams remain poor.

Kings in 5. They've been incredible these playoffs and there's no reason they're stopping now. I would love a long series, but with the way the Kings have played, I just don't think it will be.

They have been amazing in the playoffs. What really surprised me were Quick's stats in the regular season.

The Kings made 8th, their record was 40-27-15 (which is 2 games under .500 since an OTL is still a loss). But Quick's regular season stats: 35-21-13 with a GAA of 1.95 and a SVS% of .929. On a roughly .500 team... Wow. And of course his playoff stats are even better.

Yeah, I'm with the rest of you in thinking the Kings have got this one.

And in other news... http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=396927

Hasek wants to come back to the NHL. At 47. Hmm... Wonder if he's just itching for another groin injury.

I'm watching the Lidstrom press conference announcing his retirement and man what a class guy he is. He's thanking everyone, from the Doctors, to the Fans, Media, Ushers. I'm not a Red Wings fan, but the day when we won't see players like Lidstrom and Salanne play anymore will be a sad day. What a class act and he is definitely getting into the Hall of Fame when he's eligible.

I would so not love a long series. It stresses me out :(

I know im not on here much any more but i figured i'd come on just to brag a bit as to how well my teams doing :p

Go kings!
