NFL Talk - 2010-11 Season

Was Michael Jackson ever convicted of molesting children? Was OJ ever convicted of murder? Rich people have ways of solving such problems without serving time... Doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Not to start an all out debate, but it doesn't mean it did either.

But I'm also the guy who said Michael Vick has paid his debt to society and should be left alone to rebuild his life, while continuing his pro-animal work, so what do I know?

I think Big Ben's got something of a brutish mien—which doesn't contribute to an overall good impression, especially in light of his alleged misdeeds. [For example: My wife, who's customarily an excellent assessor of character (if a bit judgmental), took one glance at him when this occurred and said, "He absolutely looks like a rapist." My immediate thought was, I wasn't aware rapists had a 'look', but ... I was prudent enough not to voice that.]

Is it fair? Nope. Does that matter in the court of public opinion? Not for a nanosecond.

One difference here is that Vick was caught, convicted, and went to prison. In the case of Ben's alleged rape, he was never brought to justice.

What justice??? Were you there personally and saw the actual events?? Unless you were all you have is your own opinion....

... :wtf:

I did say "alleged." My opinion may be that he's guilty, but I did say "alleged."
Now that is the word then..."alleged". But in your opinion, because of your dislike of him (or other "stars"), you have convicted him with no proof of evidence. You don't beleive in innocent until proven guilty????

I put serious weight with the allegations of police misconduct (to put it mildly) that resulted in the charges being dropped. There's a reason the NFL suspended him for this. While proof beyond a reasonable doubt isn't needed, it definitely shows that he more likely than not did what he was accused of doing.

Yet again, is there proof? Perhaps it was the other side as well?...I mean with a "college girl" with a DTF pin she "allegedly" wore that night? Perhaps they realized after her "several" interviews that they simply didn't have a case due to her changing her story during them.

I understand that most of this is just "anti" Steelers rederick, but was the man ever convicted or is this just your "personal" opinion?
I, in my own, also look at the "woman (???) involved. Both could be money hungry sluts that took advantage of a "dumbass star having a dumbass moment", as in partying the way he was.

 This wasn't Ben's only "moment" when women complained about his aggressive behavior. If it were I might give him the benefit of a doubt. Where have you been? It must be great to be a predatory athlete. You can always claim the girl is a "money hungry slut" or use your police friends and/or lawyers to pressure her. The police behavior in this particular instance with Rothlisberger was extremely suspect.

I don't give a damn about the Steelers as an organization one way or the other. Ben Rothlisberger is not a gentleman to say the very least and yes, I completely get where JM1776's wife is coming from about his "look." I can remember thinking to myself (before the first time Rothlisberger got accused of being aggressive) that he looked like someone the Lifetime channel could make a date rape movie about.

I personally believe in "innocent UNLESS proven guilty," but that's just me.

Of course, if Ben stated he liked the last Star Trek movie, then I'm sure that would be the unforgivable sin where all bets are off and you'd give him the electric chair.

Damn I would hate to be an innocent man on your jury board (although Richard Nogins like yourself do have the jury foreman job).
IF Ben liked Star Trek I would treat him like all posters that stated thier reasons for the film...
But what the HELL is that discussion topic coming up in Sports and Fitness?..Unless you are being an idiot?...If you are there is a PM?...

Still ALL personal opinion...;)

Perhaps you also missed this:

Absolutely possible. But I will point that this is different than most cases where the alleged victim seems to want money. She never retracted, she never came public, there is no private suit. The prosecutor determined that the evidence was not conclusive enough to prove rape beyond a reasonable doubt, although he too did not say nothing happened (this would be more common).

I'm not saying he did it. But I do think there are many reasons to believe he did. I'm willing to go as far as to say he probably did it. But I won't state legal certainty on that.

You don't beleive in innocent until proven guilty????

Damn I would hate to be an innocent man on your jury board (although Richard Nogins like yourself do have the jury foreman job).

Really? An innocent person would be better off on your jury where someone is innocent until they are found guilty, rather my jury where someone is innocent unless they are proven guilty? Using your words.

Of course, you are also one to immediately call someone else a dickhead, even if you can't spell noggin right.

So... if we're done with the Captain Mike and Aragorn Show...... (take it from me guys, you need to drop it and now) ;)

There were at least two different women who had been involved in separate incidents. Each seemed to handle it differently. The first took a more public approach, while the second apparently shunned any spotlight and had to be coaxed into any kind of action. But as far as I know none of us is a lawyer.

Look... I am a proud Miami U alum. Few people were happier than I when Ben was drafted and then had such success with ever more success. Consequently, I became a big fan of his. Then more and more reports came out of less than savory behavior. Reporters from the Pittsburgh area and others had less than flattering descriptions of his treatment of fans and others. He's one of the NFL's biggest and brightest stars. Still very young for an NFL quarterback, without gaudy stats he has two Super Bowl championships and is regarded among the elite these days. If the league suspended one of their biggest stars for 6 games, you can bet there was solid evidence of bad off field behavior. Doesn't mean he raped anyone, but he was showing some of the poorest judgment out there.

Ed says, "Unsportsmanlike conduct on the offense, unsportsmanlike conduct on the defense; replay the down."

Don't make Ed flex, you wouldn't like it when Ed flexes. Leave the personal sniping on the sideline guys, OK?
