NFL Talk - 2010-11 Season

I watched a quarter and a half before going to bed. I loved how the announcers were bashing the game and the teams right there in the booth.

Could they have been hawking Pats-Jets next week any more?

Wow. Arizona has completely imploded.

I love it.

:p

Good thing they dumped Leinart for Derek "NOTHING'S FUNNY TO ME!!!" Anderson.

That whole business is so overblown. I'd be interested in whether this was the first of many or an isolated occasion. For Pete's sake, we all deal with adversity in different ways. And it's hard to get any more adverse than losing like that to the Niners this year. Yet some folks deal with it via humor to get them through whatever is happening.

Now if Anderson keeps doing it, maybe it needs to be rethought, but for now so many of these criticisms are jsut overdone.

Dear Texans fans,
We the Titans fans wish to apologize for making you pay full price to see what amounted to an effort on our part akin to the first preseason game in August. In addition we hope to improve and straighten our shit out so that no other NFL fan base will feel cheated for the remainder of the season.

Sincerely,
The 5-6 Titans.

Seriously, that was disgusting. How the hell do we start a rookie QB and only give Chris Johnson 7 carries?! :wtf:

Prayers for Dinger though as he starts chemo.
I don't know what type of Titans talk you get on the radio in East TN, due to the Vols I'd assume, but talk here in town has been very down. Even the most optimistic of callers/hosts seems to be hedging bets.
Will Vince be gone?
Will Fisher be gone?
Will both be gone?

All that aside it was a horrible rookie debut for Rusty. Why didn't we try to run more? Sure the Texans took Johnson down a few times for losses but Heimerdinger called way to many pass plays for that game. His name is Rusty not Manning.

While Derek Anderson did freak out and react poorly to the reporter's question, why the reporter asked the question just goes to show you that fans are mostly a bunch of dumbasses. Smiling on the sideline has nothing to do with the outcome of a game.

But that's part of the game. Part of being a leader and keeping your cool. He could have calmly explained himself, but instead denied it, and then went nuts.

He should have said "we were laughing about all the stupid questions the press was going ask us."

In any event, Anderson's numbers for the year are terrible, and that's the real issue, stupid press questions or not.

1. I love this parity chart Link

2. The Bears/Patriots game on Dec. 12 has been moved to 4:15. Looks like people are finally starting to believe in Da Bears.

All good points, but the reporter went on and on about it, seemingly because he wasn't getting the answer he wanted out of Anderson. It certainly is part of the game to have to face the press after ugly losses and beautiful wins. But there's a point past which it gets ridiculous. Certainly you shdl be above such behavior by the few idiots out there, and no matter how bad his performance Anderson could have looked better if he'd answered ina more relaxed manner and moved on.

Don't get me wrong. Anderson sucks, the team sucks. He had one good season -with the Browns. The Cards have had one maybe one and a half good seasons in recent memory. The fans deserve better, but come on... the guy probably knows he's been sucking more than Kirby crossed with a Hoover. He's also just had a terrible game and yet this reporter keeps badgering him for this one thing. Sure, if you're a fan that may not sit well with you - losing to the Niners that badly and you're on the sideline laughing about something. But nobody has been able to identify if this is regular behavior by Anderson, nor acknowledge that different people deal with stress in different ways.

That's what bugs me about it all

Get baby Vince out of there I say. He's had his shot and while he seems to have talent, he needs to get his act together. Keep Fisher for sure, go for a youngish veteran and/or keep Kerry and draft a hotter hand if Rusty doesn't play out. He deserves another shot though after Dinger for some reason threw him to the wolves.

Wonder what the Eagles will be asking for Kolb? We've got a veteran superstar WR named Randy they might want...

I don't see how Fisher is going to keep his job much longer either unless they start making deep playoff runs.

I agree the reporter was baiting him. No question.

But...he fell for it.

The first time Anderson was asked about the smiling, he answered calmly without really answering it, talking about how Deuce Lutui was trying to keep things positive and that they weren't joking around. A few questions later, the reporter (Kent Somers) asked a followup question trying to get specifics (which is where most of the replays you've been hearing the last couple days start), which annoyed Anderson even more, and it seemed like the reporter took it personally when Anderson wouldn't give him what he wanted so he kept digging and egging him on.

"But why was something funny when you're down 18 points in the fourth quarter?"

That's where Somers crossed the line, when he started grandstanding, injected his own POV into the story and wouldn't let it go. It's not like he was interviewing a dictator on 20/20 and was trying to dig deeper to get him to talk about all the atrocities under his watch.

Both the reporter and Anderson come across poorly here. But Somers comes across even worse after a radio interview Tuesday.

Somers said he wouldn't have keep digging if Anderson had just given some sort of generic answers and then Somers even gave examples -- that were exactly like what Anderson said the first time the question was asked.

Somers also said he asked the question because of all the Cardinals fans who immediately tweeted, texted and e-mailed him upon seeing Anderson smiling on the TV. That gets back to the stupid fans. Who cares? Him smiling has nothing to do with the struggles of the team. If he threw a touchdown pass and didn't smile, the same stupid fans would be upset that he wasn't smiling. The fact that Anderson laughing on the sideline is the biggest offense possible and the cause of all of the team's ills tells you everything you need to know about the Cardinals "fans" that freaked out over it.

I don't see how Fisher is going to keep his job much longer either unless they start making deep playoff runs.
I like Fisher but the obvious is obvious, he's been with the organization 16 years now(10 Titans, 6 Oilers) and all we have to show for it is one glorious Super Bowl run where we put up a good show and by default have an AFC championship title.

That said, Vince Young is not mentally mature enough to be an NFL quarterback, that card has played out the last 5 years to frustrating results. He's really just an above average NFL QB. The man is still not mentally a man.

Keep Fisher but give him some type of ultimatum, win or move on.

Or keep Fisher and don't let Bud Adams make any more personnel decisions. He's the reason why they even drafted Vince Young in the first place.

Hey ... at least order's been restored, right? I mean, the Cardinals winning their division—twice? Reaching (and winning but for that steely officiating) the Super Bowl? Scoring 51 points in a playoff game? Truth is stranger than fiction.

Good thing they dumped Leinart for Derek "NOTHING'S FUNNY TO ME!!!" Anderson.
I don't give a crap what anyone says: They're not 3-8 if Leinart's under center. They ain't 8-3 ... but they ain't 3-8, either. [My best guess is 5-6.] Whisenhunt's reputation for astute personnel decisions has disintegrated in a matter of six games. Anderson's an incompetent imbecile with all the poise of Chicken Little.

The Cardinals had opened the exchequer a bit over the last few years, but the traditional Bidwillian niggardliness has once again risen to bite them in their feathered ass.

Oh, and Kurt Warner's one of the ten greatest quarterbacks of all time.

Anderson's an incompetent imbecile with all the poise of Chicken Little.
And yet another example of the Scott Mitchell syndrome, where a guy gets paid all based upon one good season, and thereafter amounts to nothing.

Oh, and Kurt Warner's one of the ten greatest quarterbacks of all time.

No argument here!

Agreed on Warner. It's a shame he didn't break into the NFL earlier. Imagine the numbers he might have retired with had he been drafted in 1994 by an organization that actually needed a franchise quarterback (he'd signed with the Packers in '94 as an undrafted free agent).

Astounding how much Larry Fitzgerald looks like a mere mortal without Warner delivering the ball and Anquan Boldin taking the heat off him, ain't it?

[Don't get me wrong. He's still great, but ... fallible.]
