NFL Football 2009

Somehow I feel less than satisfied with the Ravens' win over the Squeelers tonight. I mean, it's always nice to win off an interception, and it's nice that the rookie got to make the key play, but still... :vulcan:

He did, yes. Though it helped that there was virtually no film to study and no time to prepare. I will say, I anticipated that he would score one with his legs, and he did. Kid is fast. Also, super-composed given the circumstances. He would be a good look for any number of struggling teams right now. The fact that we did not manage to sack him more tells me we have real issues with anything resembling a playoff run. At least our D managed to step up at the last possible second (yay, rook!). And Derrick Mason's first TD against the Steelers in 20 career games was nice. He actually celebrated, which is super-rare for him. Ray Rice is a star in the making. Also, the 09 draft looks solid. Oher is a beast, Krueger saved the game, and Lardarius Webb was all over the field all game in his first start.

Meanwhile. Go Ravens. :techman:

eta: I love it when they put Ngata in on offense. That's just hot. And mean. Which is also hot.

Their Achilles heel and greatest strength lies in the knowledge they are good enough to win while playing badly.
Eh, I wouldn't really give them enough credit to say that they're good enough to win while playing badly. They've won while playing badly, but today was the only game out of the last five where the game wasn't gift-wrapped and given to them by the other team. They had won the previous four, but they didn't win it themselves. Eventually, they're going to hit a team that will finish them off, and they really shouldn't hope to ride that luck through the playoffs.

Good team, great quaterback, but damn, every game I get the opportunity to watch them play, there's always that one phantom pass interference call that goes their way.

In general, the rules in the NFL are too damned offensively driven (obviously to garner interest). Why the hell is offensive pass interference only 10 yards when defensive pass interference can basically drive the team down the field?

Mike & Mike cited a fascinating statistic. Titans RB Chris Johnson now has more TD runs of 85+ this season (four), than any other RB had in their entire career.

You know, a surging Titans could potentially cost Denver a wildcard spot

No, squandering a 3.5 game lead by losing 4 in a row is what will cost Denver a wildcard spot. That, and they're not that good. They may be the worst 7-4 team going right now. 7 and 9 for the season.

Did I read this right?

The Bears managed 2 yards of total offense in the second half against the Vikings?

Classic.

Who do you think loves his life more right now - Kyle Orton or Jay Cutler?

Sometimes Orton looks confused in the pocket, but I think that's because he doesn't know what to do with all that time back there.

Damn, Indy, Cincy, and SD won yesterday. Pats need to beat the undefeated Saints in NO just to keep up with the Joneses. Ugh.

Anxiously awaiting Timby's response...

I watched the entire game and didn't think it was THAT bad. I honestly don't see how any pro team gets away with that low of yardage. Hell, anyone here could've gotten two yards against a pro defense in 30 minutes of gametime...and probably not lived to tell about it, but anyhow...

Wow, Barry Sanders and other greats didn't have 4 for their whole career?! Out of curiosity did they mention what the closest 'great' was to having 2-3 for their career?

Chris Johnson is on pace to hit 2K Rushing for the year. A feat not often accomplished.

The immortal Barry Sanders, whom you mentioned. However, after a little more digging, I think Johnson only has three and Sanders had two. I'd love to hear Greenebrg's report again. Tony Dorsett still has the record for longest run overall, like 99 yds I think.

Johnson hasn't been mentioned that much in the news, probably because the Titans were doing so poorly. But dig this.... right now Johnson is rushing for over 6 yds per carry this season!

They're not that bad. They played at a level Thursday night that was like the first six weeks they played. The question now will be whether or not the next five will show the 6-0 start or the 0-4 middle as more of a fluke. I don't trust Denver yet, but I think if they can return to the style of play that started them off as great, then they'll make a good stab at the playoffs. In fact, if they continue to play well, I think they should win all but the Colts game, and have the potential to even take that one.

I wore my brown and yellow striped throwback socks during the game the other night. It seemed to bring them luck.

I watched the entire game and I thought it was that bad. Rooting for the Bears is pretty frustrating- glad I don't have to do that on a regular basis. I can't stand the Vikings, but their run defense is top-notch (last week they all but stopped Seattle). If you don't have a passing game, the Vikings will eat you up.

Dear Bears,

Fire every single coach and player who doesn't wear 6, 13, 33, or 55. This was some of the worst football I have ever seen. Good thing we have all those draft picks next year ... oh, wait.

Honestly, I was expecting you to get clobbered by a wrecking ball today, but holy shit. You've had one good game all year, and you're basically in extended preseason mode now. You fucking suck.

You are what we thought you were: Fucking terrible. Now you get to go beat up on the Rams, and you know what? You don't even deserve that.

Imagine being a ten-year-old boy. Now, imagine that it’s Christmas morning and you’re sitting under the tree with your final present to open. It’s a big one, and you know what it is. It’s a fucking Nintendo Wii. A motherfucking Wii. You're ten years old and you've been waiting all year to get that fucking Wii. That's how I felt at the start of this season. You went out and got a franchise quarterback, and I was ready for a season that wasn't a comedy of errors despite the presence of that unrelenting douchenozzle, Ron Turner. I had that childlike optimism. I was ready.

Except I opened that final present, and it wasn't a motherfucking Nintendo Wii. It was my cat. It was my fucking cat in the box, and it wasn't breathing and it was starting to slightly smell. That's how you assholes have treated me this year.

God damn it, I am so sick of your shit.

I got a Wii a couple weeks back. Oh man is it fun. As long as its the NFL thread, Madden is awesome on it.

I rented Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics and played it all weekend.

But, you forget, the Dolphins lost (against the Bills for christ sakes :)), and that's what matters the most, division lead and all.

Since the loss of Ronnie Brown, a lot of the pressure has been placed on the shoulder of Henne, and he's just not ready.

Cheers.
