NFL Football 2009

I am simply ENRAGED by the decision to give up on the perfect season by the Colts. It feels like a playoff loss. It's absolutely demoralizing as a fan to see your team just pull it in during a game. Everyone I know is completely pissed at the team.

We'll get over it as long as they win the Super Bowl. Anything else is worthless.

Something tells me there won't be a Super Bowl appearance for the Colts this year.

Think the fact there are sports fans on a message board populated by STAR TREK fans is..well...a miracle. So with that in mind? Twenty-five posts in a row wouldn't really get me mad in the sports forum.

Hey, on this board, someone told me chess was as violent of a sport (?!?!?!) as football. Most people don't know that Bobby Fischer actually disappeared from the chess world because of a torn ACL.

I watch the BIG BANG theory; their 'stereotypical view' of sports/trek-nerds is right on target.

Could you imagine a football game (soccer or american version) with teams picked from those who frequent Star Trek conventions...oye!!! Yes. a shameless generality...but a compliment too. (if you think about it long enough)

3 weeks in a row, all Denver needs to do is stop one more drive (after doing it all game) in order to have a great shot at winning. 3 weeks in a row, they've screwed the pooch. Dammit.

Well if it makes you feel any better, rest assured you've got a win coming up this week as the hapless Chiefs come to town.

I think the Chiefs are going to be good a couple years..and I'm a big time Charger's fan. I think that running back going to be a powerhouse for years to come..

After Cassel moved to Kansas City, the Chiefs became my second favorite team and I tend to watch their games when I have the opportunity.
What's the general opinion of Cassel's performance amongst the Chiefs fanbase anyways?
I think with a few years of development with the guidance of the likes of Pioli and Haley, I can see the Chiefs becoming a viable contender.

Yes..I do too. I think they are on the right track, and I also think if the Raiders get a QB they, with their defense, could be on the road back too...

So, my CHARGERS better score while the rest of the division is in reboot mode...

Denver? they are pretty good too...

Dear Bears,

Since the Vikings are just going to ram it in your cornhole tonight, and you're not going to do anything to stop it, I'm just going to get it out of the way and deliver a preemptive, high holy "fuck you" to you bunch of goddamn gutless, worthless fucking assholes.

Especially you, Turner, you cock-juggling thundercunt.

Love,
Tim

Since I am an outsider (chargers fan) who are you talking about ? (turner)...and what was the overall impression of Cutler there??

I'm referring to offensive coordinator Ron Turner, who may indeed have been spawned from the loins of the Dark Lord himself.

Main Entry: of·fen·sive
Pronunciation: \ə-ˈfen(t)-siv, especially for 1 ˈä-ˌfen(t)-, ˈȯ-\
Function: adjective
Date: circa 1564

1 a : making attack : aggressive b : of, relating to, or designed for attack <offensive weapons> c : of or relating to an attempt to score in a game or contest; also : of or relating to a team in possession of the ball or puck

2 : giving painful or unpleasant sensations : nauseous, obnoxious <an offensive odor>

3 : causing displeasure or resentment <offensive remarks>

Now just which definition does Timby intend in this context......

Well I wouldn't dare presume to speak for the Chiefs fanbase, but based on what I'm reading in some of the Chiefs bulletin boards, so far I don't think we're too impressed with him. Some of the complaints are 1) he's inaccurate and; 2) he holds the ball too long.

1) is kind of wash considering how bad the O-line and the receiving corps is, but he definitely holds the ball too long and takes too many sacks.

I'm actually more concerned about Haley than Cassel. I think he's in over his head and it shows. He has really made some boneheaded decisions on game day this year. And I'm not convinced his "in your face" style of coaching is really working out for him. There was a game where he went absolutely apeshit bananas at Dwayne Bowe because Bowe lined up wrong. And when I say "apeshit bananas" I really mean it, he looked like a deranged lunatic in that particular moment, not a professional NFL head coach. If I can find the video, I'll post it.

Pioli has me a little stumped too. He brought in Cassel, made him the $60 million man, and then did NOTHING to beef up the OL which was already known to be attrocious. Another thing that's a little puzzling is that when you start looking at the few players who have any talent on this team, with the exception of the FG kicker, they are all left overs from the Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards era. Pioli/Haley's picks/FA signings have been pretty lame.

I'm not ready to throw Pioli overboard, I guess maybe I expected too much, too soon of him. I'm not calling for Haley's head either, but I can tell you I wouldn't shed a tear if he got fired after next weekend. (He won't of course.)

Both those criticisms were weighed against Cassel with his stint on the Patriots.

With regards to point 1:
His short to intermediate throws were pretty accurate, but man was he off with the long bombs for the most part, to the point you could see Moss' frustrations at times on muffed plays.

With regards to point 2:
For the first few games, Cassel had a noticeable habit of holding on to the long ball. Interestingly, to help minimize this for the latter part of the season:
1. McDaniels kept on harping on this during game reviews.
2. McDaniels realized that Cassel was much better at distributing the ball with plays from shotgun rather than from center. I'm guessing that afforded him more time to survey the field.

Lovie smith, I hope you and your coaching staff enjoy your last prime time game for many years to come. I'm predicting at least 4 Cutlers and at least five screen passes on 3rd and long. Rex Grossman is sitting on his ass in Texas and laughing, laughing, laughing.

It's the last week of the regular season and the Texans are still in the playoff hunt. Frigging amazing. I don't expect things to go their way this Sunday though. Not only do we have to beat New England, we have to have several other teams lose. But, it's nice to be playing for a playoff spot in the last week for once. :)

Brian Cushing is the defensive rookie of the year! :techman:
