NFL 2025: A new era dawns?

I posted this before, but look at Brock Purdy with four good but not great years starting against elite teams. Then look at Trey Lance with one elite year playing against FCS teams. Experience counts for something.

The unfortunate thing is that there is no longer time for QB’s to grow up in the NFL before having the weight of mostly bad teams thrown in their laps.

Factoring in less practice time, both in the off season and regular season and many of these kids are doomed to fail before they ever see game action.

I think the type of offense you play (along with sheer talent, obviously) matters most. I'd be more inclined to take a QB with one year of experience in a pro-style offense over a four-year QB who played in a less complex, more traditional college style offense. Unless the latter player has off the charts physical tools and mental acuity, of course.

I don’t know. Give me a guy who can process the defensive coverages in less than 1.5 seconds. If he can do that and make all the throws, I think whatever offensive scheme he comes from can be overcome.

Just so much to playing QB, that it isn’t for the faint of heart.

QB success also comes down to the team. There may be 32 starting QB spots in the NFL, but there aren't 32 good teams. Patrick Mahomes might be out of the league by now if the Browns had drafted him. Could Mitch Trubisky have become a long-term starter if the Eagles had selected him?

Team. Personalities involved. Scheme. Quality of the offensive line and skilled positions. Mental makeup of the QB in question to handle adversity and success.

You are right. If you had flip-flopped Trubisky and Mahomes, the career trajectories of both may have been quite different.
