Bad investments trying to become the next Magic Johnson, ten kids from nine different women, give your high school dropout friend who flunked math a job as your money manager, friends and family wanting handouts, living it up with that first contract and then it turns out you're not that good of a player so there's no second contract. There are even pro athletes who made nine figures and went broke. An NHL player's own parents spent all his money, borrowed under his name and left him in debt.

Many people who go from no money to a ton of money just like that aren't ready for it. Look how many lottery winners lose it all and end up in a worse place than when they started.

Oh, it's a story as old as time.

I don't know if the NFL and if MLB still do this, but it used to be that all rookies had to go through mandatory financial literacy classes around the start of training camp, basically explaining to these players that they have newfound generational wealth and it's easy to blow it all very, very quickly during your first contract (especially explaining just how much comes out of their contracts, between taxes, agent fees, management fees, etc.). MLB players, especially international ones, are preyed upon even more; it's not uncommon for them to be conned into signing as much as 35 percent of their lifetime earnings to the agent who plucked them out of the DR or Cuba or whatever.

With NFL players, especially, a lot of them are the first in their families to go to school, and then they get handed mega-deals, more money than they've ever seen in their lives. And then the family and the hangers-on come, and Mom wants a new garage and sister needs a new car and Uncle Jim has a really great idea for a restaurant, he's got a solid business plan, honest, he just needs some investment money for the property and the capital to keep things going for six months while the place gets running and up on its feet and before you know it, that $17 million signing bonus is long gone, Uncle Jim needs another four months of operating money because the place just isn't getting the crowds he expected, your other sister now expects a car, and, welp, your career went sideways and it looks like you're not getting that fifth-year option and you're looking at signing somewhere for league-minimum.

Vikings rookie corner back Khyree Jackson, age 24, fourth round draft pick out of Oregon, was killed in a three way car accident in Maryland on late Friday/early Saturday, when the car he was passenger in was struck head on by a wrong way driver on the freeway.

Supposedly every NFL team made $404 million last season from national revenue, and that's before tickets, concessions, parking, merchandise and any other local revenue. That's more than every NBA team except Boston, New York, Golden State and the L.A. Lakers made in total revenue.

Absurd.

Part of the roof on Reliant Stadium where the Texans play was damaged during hurricane Beryl. The roof was supposed to be able to withstand cat 1 winds, but now twice it hasn't. Oops.

Jacoby Jones was drafted by the Texans and made some nice punt returns for us before going to the Ravens.

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk requests to be traded. 49ers have told inquiring teams they have no intention to trade him.

Jaguars release new throwback uniforms...
