We shall see...

He might need some time on the bench, but he has the talent to develop into a good starting quarterback in this league. He just needs to fine tune a few mechanical things. The Patriots had to get a quarterback.
Williams could be a bust simply because he's going to the Bears. Doesn't matter if it's a new coaching staff and new front office, the QB results seem to always come out the same.
Didn't this coaching staff have Fields for two years, with little to show for it?
Yes, but they get to use the "he wasn't our guy" excuse.
Goodell is mulling an 18-game season by turning another preseason game into a regular season game, and then adding another bye week, and then moving the Super Bowl to Presidents Day weekend so that many people would get Monday off. None of this would happen anytime soon though. Also, he wants more games played in other countries, which I'm sure the players love.

The first time I remember the Super Bowl being played in late February was the 2001-2002 season because of 9/11, when the games were postponed for a couple of weeks after the attack.
Before that, I don't really recall a two week break between the division championship and the Super Bowl.

Fields has his own many issues that might have been correctable if he was on a team that had ever been able to develop a rookie QB.They also have the "Fields pretty decisively proved that he is not a starting quarterback in the NFL" excuse, given his fumbling issues, his terrible footwork, the way he melts down the moment his first read isn't open, his instinct to take off running if a play collapses, and a propensity for taking nasty sacks.
I mean, there's a reason the best offer the Bears got for Fields was a conditional sixth-round pick in 2025.
From what I've been able to gather, the "mechanical things" refers mainly to his footwork which could use some cleaning up. Alex Van Pelt, the Patriots' new OC, is apparently a specialist in QB footwork, so they probably kept that in mind when they were considering Maye.Drake Maye.
This is what CBS Sports said...
This always concerns me when a QB who has played the position for seven or eight years (high school/college) needs to "fine tune a few mechanical things". Especially on a roster that doesn't have much in the way of offensive talent.
Colts general manager Chris Ballard fiercely defended second-round pick Adonai Mitchell against criticisms of his character after selecting the wide receiver Friday night, calling the condemnations of the former Texas star "bulls---" during a lengthy rant.
Mitchell, selected 52nd overall, had hoped to be selected in the first round but slid into the second round amid reports that he interviewed poorly and was a difficult player to assess.
This has been the year of the all or nothing QB.
Big baby says "wahhhh!" News at eleven. This guy definitely wants to be the worst owner in the NFL...
