And they acquired Keenan Mitchell from San Diego for a fourth-round pick.

Between him and DJ Moore, that's a pretty scary 1-2 receiving combo ... as long as it isn't Justin Fields under center, saying, "Fuck it, I'm running" after his first checkdown isn't open.
 
Saints sign Nathan Peterman. How does he keep getting work? He may be a great teammate, but all of that goes out the window when he actually has to play. I remember reading about how intelligent Rick Mirer was with the playbook, but he sure as hell wasn't intelligent on the field.
 
I don't think it’s uncertainty. With the going rate of veteran backup QBs, Pickett, Howell and Ridder are extremely cheap for two more years under their rookie deals.

Keenan Allen? Yeah, even at 31 he should still have some good play left. If they do go with Caleb, I'd bet they trade Fields after the season starts, as soon as some team gets their QB hurt. Or else a last minute trade-day deal.


Steelers trade (first round pick) QB Kenny Pickett to the Eagles for a 2024 3rd round pick and two 2025 7th round picks. Wilson is currently the Steelers' only QB under contract.
 
Scuttlebutt is that Pickett threw a fit over the Wilson signing and that's why they traded him. Or maybe they always intended to get rid of him and he gave them a reason to.
 
Steelers trade a conditional six round pick to the Bears for.... Justin Fields. Is told he will not compete with Wilson for QB1.
 
Time to move on and screw up another rookie QB so he can be traded in a few years for next to nothing, rinse and repeat :rolleyes:

I wouldn't quite count Fields out, yet. Just because the Steelers say there isn't a competition for QB1, doesn't mean that Fields can't show Wilson up to such a degree in training camp that he essentially forces their hand.

Fields has a world of talent. See if Tomlin and Arthur Smith can get him to become a consistent high-end player.

No, not counting him 100% out because I know the Bears suck at developing rookie QBs and generally can't manage QBs at all.

But Fields does make some pretty bad decisions which can only be partially attributed to coaching. I mean, you can only yell at a guy so many times about holding onto the ball too long, right? The most mobile QB in the league and also the most sacked QB in the league (some of this is one past O-Lines that weren't good).

Sometimes guy's in a bad situation can lose track of the fundamentals pressing to make "the play". I'm pretty much of the opinion that anything can happen to Justin Fields in Pittsburgh. From evolving into a high-end starter to being cut in training camp. Nothing would really surprise me.
