NFL 2020 Season: We're gonna bite a kneecap off

I could live without it, but I must not count as the audience. I only watch games on TV. I don't buy overpriced "official" gear or $500 tickets or $15 beer at games, etc, etc.
Same here. I don't buy gear, don't watch the games or anything like that. To me, professional sports is a weird social experiment that insists on continuing despite the lack of need, at least to my mind. I was hoping with how overblown COVID was at the start that it would illustrate that sports is not a need in society. But, that hasn't happened and so the demand continues. I guess I underestimate the importance to people.

$$$ only works if they actually continue to make money on the franchises. If enough people and families get sick from lax stadium precautions attending these games, $$$ will start to become -$$$ with the reckless endangerment lawsuits (or worse, wrongful deaths if any can be attributed to the games). Once things start getting litigious, it's all over. We're not there yet, obviously, but it is within the realm of possibility.

The big money isn't the fans in the stands but the television contracts. You'll absolutely see a return to no fan presence before you see the games themselves canceled. CBS and Fox Sports and ESPN have paid a shit ton of money to broadcast those games. Not to mention advertiser dollars.

Welcome to the last couple thousand years of human civilization across civilizations? And that's a strange comment to read in the sports forum...

I'm aware. And I am continuously fascinated by human behavior in relationship to sports. I mean, I enjoy football at times but there is no need there for me. So, the idea of it being so important to people is one I'm still trying to wrap my head around.

You want to see an unhealthy obsession with sports? This is an $80 million high school football field in Texas.

Texas also has two $70 million high school stadiums tied for second.

My brother in law is from Texas. I'm sadly aware. Only hoping my nieces are spared.

Where TF does a high school get that kind of money? Private school?

It's Texas. It's high school football. That shit is a religion down there, second only to Christianity.

The $72 million stadium in Katy was included in a $784 million bond funding new schools and renovations. And of course, it ran over the allotted $58 million budget.

Plus it's Texas where football is king. You could suggest raising school lunches to $100 to pay for a new stadium and it'd pass there.

But can Johnny read?

Steelers Titans.....wait for it..........postponed. To Monday or Tuesday, because 1 or 2 days will make all the difference.

Follow what baseball did. Double header, three quarter games. If it goes into overtime, one of your offensive players gets to start past the first down line on the first play. :D
