NFL 2020 Season: We're gonna bite a kneecap off

I think people are beginning to figure out what Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray are doing. Not sure if they are capable of adjusting.

Murray didn’t play for a lot of the game due to an ankle injury early in the 1st quarter. Their back-up was someone I’d never heard of.

Jesus fuck! Who’s side was Fangio on with those two consecutive timeouts that helped the Raiders?!? Broncos deserved to lose with that level of profound stupidity. Can someone please explain to me what he was thinking because I haven’t a clue. Fire him yesterday. Fucking moron.

The Rams' improbable win over the Cards allowed my Bears the chance to be embarrassed one more time this season, so thanks for that. Saints are gonna have us for an early Sunday dinner.

This also probably guarantees Nagy & Pace don't get the axe, despite backing into the playoffs. I can only hope Denver does fire Fangio and we can get him back as DC. Our D has become disturbingly average under Pagano.

As predicted, Gase out, Marrone out and also Lynn is out for SD LA Chargers.

The hiring pool can't be too deep. Probably a lot of retreads as well as some college names. Urban Meyer's name has been out there. Some rumors have Dabo going to Jacksonville sometimes coupled with Trevor.

Outside of Carroll, any other college coaches turned NFL HC's that have succeeded?

Jim Harbaugh had a good thing going in San Francisco, but it felt like ownership screwed him over. He's rumored to be getting an extension at Michigan though.

Jimmy Johnson would probably be the big one.

I heard rumors Harbaugh was "leaving" Michigan after the 2-4 record.

ETA: John Elway has stepped down as Broncos GM, but will remain with the team in another role.

Carroll washed out from the Jets and Patriots before striking gold with the Seahawks, I'm not sure he counts. After Jimmy Johnson, you'd have to think of guys like Harbaugh, Barry Switzer, Paul Brown, Don Coryell and Tom Coughlin. And Paul Brown is a huge outlier, considering that was the '40s and he basically invented modern coaching in a lot of ways.

Well! Jolly Old Saint John Elway is finally stepping down as GM for the Broncos. He’s still going to be President of Operations apparently, but handing over the main function of the team rebuild to someone else. If the person who follows him into that position doesn’t fire Fangio, I would hope that someone instructs him on the proper use of the timeout concept that benefits his team and not the opposing team.

...Barry Switzer...

I would argue that Switzer wasn't a successful NFL head coach. He seemed lost much of the time in the media and on the sideline. The infrastructure for the 1995 run was already in place, all he had to do was stand on the sideline and wear the headset.

Agreed that Switzer lucked into a great team with the Cowboys.

However, a man doesn't win an NCAA Championship and a Super Bowl without having something there. I do give him some credit.

Bizarre that my Pats are done but I suppose someone else should win once in awhile. I only watch The Pats so it will be strange watching Tampa games to see how far the world's oldest Quarterback can go....

He must have learned timeout and clock management from Nagy in 2018. But since we're likely stuck with Nagy for another year due to our sudden overachieving, getting Fangio back as DC might not be a bad thing, Pagana has been underwhelming.

 You can have him! :)

Hey, our defense has dropped down to barely average levels since Vic left. Could be a lot of factors involved, but I'd give him another shot.

Are there any stats or studies you know of that correlate how the best DC's and OC's do as HC, vs average DC's and OC's? I've always felt like the really great DC's (especially) go on to be quite poor as HC's. Fangio being the latest example.

Chan Gailey "resigns" as Dolphins Offensive Coordinator.

What it means for Tagvailoa is anyone's guess?

Honest question, as I don't watch football anymore: You seem really all-in on Tagovailoa being a bust despite him having what looks to be a pretty decent rookie year on a mediocre team. What gives?

Edit: And wasn't Gailey plucked out of retirement as a last-ditch plea by Flores? Seems like he was always going to be a one-and-done guy.
