Yeah, trying to sell it as an instructional league for the NFL was a far cry from getting the NFL to buy into it and give them money.
The NFL did provide some financial support, along with putting games on the NFL Network, and each AAF team had four NFL team affiliations.
Edit: But the AAF was fucking moronic to expect the NFLPA to loan them players who already play a grueling 16-plus games a year.
Edit 2: Multiple sources are saying that the league founders are not on board with Tom Dundon's decision to shutter the league, and it's not a financial decision (i.e., the league isn't broke). One reporter is saying that Dundon bought in to acquire a gambling app that the league was developing.
