^ See, you do know what it's like to be a Bears fan (most weeks).

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Wow, rough Pats/Giants games. Gotta hand it to Coughlin, he knows how to get his team up for the Patriots. And one of only a handful of coaches that can keep his head when he sees Belichick.

Brady didn't look great (probably a function of the 3rd string OL they're using), Edelman went out early with an ankle injury, multiple fumbles and/or picks. Was pretty sure the Pats were losing this one several times, but managed to pull out a nice last-second victory.

Actually was kind of nice to see them fight through this, and got to see some old-school Brady with needing a FG to win, no timeouts, and having to go the length of the field. He's still got it in those tight spots. (although lucky the safety fell on that ball at the end, should have been a pick right to start the drive).

Stressful game. Don't really care about the perfect season thing, kinda talked myself into being ok with losing this one (and it lets you rest guys in week 17, too), but here we go again.

Also, Denver benched Peyton for sucking. We'll see if this is the beginning of the end, or more like what happened with Brady (also against KC, I believe?) last year, where it lit a fire under his ass.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

That was terrible game/clock management by the Giants at the end. Three pass attempts from the 4 yard line left Brady way too much time.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Edelman broke his foot, may be done for the year. That's gonna hurt...

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

What in the world happened to the Saints last night?? #1 offense in the NFL couldn't get around injured Redskins defense with a shut-out second half - and not just a win for the Skins, but close to blow-out territory with this one.

Wow...how the mighty have fallen...

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

The Dolphins used up a whole season of dumb luck winning that game in Philly.

Jeez.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Romo threw a left handed pass to avoid a safety today. Pass complete for a gain of 9 yards. Welcome back #9.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Seahawks offensive line FINALLY look back in their old form. Thomas Rawls had an AMAZING night with 200 yards rushing while filling in for Lynch (who may be out for the rest of the season).

It's just frustrating that this offensive line only ever seems to show up when playing the 49ers. Last week against the Cardinals was just PATHETIC. Especially for a home game and one that was REALLY REALLY needed to win the division.

I almost get the feeling in a way they WANT to be the underdogs and go in as wild card to the play offs this year.

Anyway, 'Hawks finally re-improve to .500 again. Yay!

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Missed the Skins/Panthers game rebuilding the back door on my shed. From the sounds of how it went down, I'm glad I did. Panthers being the only other undefeated 10-0 team w/ the Pats, I'm totally not surprised.

We're still ahead of Dallas, though, and tied for second place with Philly in NFC East, so I guess there's that.

Yeah, he threw better left handed than Tannenhill threw right handed all day. Ugh. What an ugly game.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

So, uh, Case Keenum got his eggs scrambled yesterday. Yikes.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Ugh, refs did not cover themselves in glory last night. Know it's a bad one when even ESPN, who is 100% in the tank for the NFL, comments on how terrible they were.

That said, Pats pick up another win on a tight one. Next Man Up philosophy is going to get tested pretty bad, which is frustrating. SO many injuries, they finished with 2 WRs, one of which was off of the practice squad on Wednesday. Getting tough out there.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Watching Belicheck stitch together a winning team from spare parts and castoffs has been rather enjoyable. This season has been the best coaching performance of his career and has firmly cemented his place in the pantheon of the coaching gods.
However, I don't see the Pats winning the Super Bowl when they are forced to start Tom, Gronk, and a bunch of guys from the transportation crew.
By the way, the Bills are weak tea and Rex Ryan needs to go away.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

If he isn't #1, he's gotta be a 1a or 1b at worst. 2008, without Brady, was a pretty good showing at 11-5 as well. Can argue that he mostly returned the 2007 team, which was one of the best ever, but still to go 11-5 without your QB isn't too shabby. And Cassell was pretty close to being cut at the end of the pre-season.

I'll fawn over him for a moment, but yeah: when was the last time you saw the Pats cost themselves by doing something undisciplined? Or get caught unaware by a formation or play call? Burn stupid timeouts because they weren't ready for something? Those are those 'little' things that all add up to the Pats team you see. They don't shoot themselves in the foot, rarely panic, and just seem business-like and in control of (or understanding) the situation most of the time. As a fan, and watching other teams, it's really just a joy to see how this team plays compared to most of the competition and their coaches. They practice (and retain) the minutia, are ready for it when it shows up. trick plays, clock management, they just seem well prepared and calm in the moments that matter. Whereas if you look over at Rex, or Carrol in the superbowl, things don't seem too under control, and there's panic and bad choices in big moments.

As for the patchwork, yeah. that's going to be the biggest frustration if they don't go all the way this year. Pats were clearly one of the (if not THE) best teams in the league this year, and not a lot of other teams stepping up. Carolina, Arizona, Bengals, who else? The injuries are really stacking up, but if they can hold it together and get Edelman back, should have a good shot at a repeat. Feels kinda like 2006, where it was the Pats and Colts, and then everyone else. If the Pats convert that 4th and 2 at the end, they get to play the Bears, led by Rex Grossman. Anyone think that ends with a ring for Rex? Pats just gotta figure out how to hold things together for a bit. Or give up on the perfect season thing, just focus on getting healthy, and go into the playoffs ready to go. They're already 1 game from clinching a berth, and I think there was already a situation where they can clinch a bye by the weekend if things fall right. Just gotta get the O-Line healthy, wait for Edelman, and figure out at least one more WR option if Amendola is going to be out for any period of time. Maybe Scott Chandler could get with the program? Feels like the Superbowl is there for the taking if they can show up with enough healthy bodies to qualify for the game...

Rex Ryan is just BAD. He took a decent Bills team and has tanked it almost immediately. They now play like him, stupid and undisciplined, usually shooting themselves in the foot. And the amount of hot air coming out of that guy doesn't compare well to his lifetime of actual achievements, he's gotta learn to STFU on occasion and focus on winning Sunday instead of in the media on Wednesday. It's kinda too bad, because if he'd stayed (or gone back to) being a DC, he'd probably be one of the best of all time. He just needs to let someone else handle the offense, special teams, and media relations. Just handle stirring up 11 guys to try and knock down the guy with the ball. He's a great defensive mind, gives Brady fits, and has good schemes. Just can't handle the rest of it.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Yeah the Pats are in a sweet spot. The NFL is very, very thin this year with just a few quality teams at the tippy top. As always the Pats are on the leading edge and I think in years to come you are going to see fewer teams award monster contracts to anyone other than their QB or perhaps a CB or LB. The injury risk is too great and it is far better to build offensive and defensive depth rather than build around a few stars and have no money left to pay other players (i.e. the Dolphins, among others).

Anyways. The Pats are the class of the AFC. If the Broncos can get Brock Whatisname spooled up in time that defense will give any team fits, the Chiefs are looking strong but again are hamstrung on offense, the Bengals will fold under pressure (as always) and there isn't really anybody else in the AFC that are any good. A very poor showing this year in the AFC.
The NFC, on the other hand has some talent. The Vikings, the Packers, the Panthers, the Giants, and the "don't look now but watch out" Buccaneers are all viable teams and I can see at least three of those five being Super Bowl contenders. The Panthers are the most complete team off that list, and the most driven. In my mind they are the Super Bowl champions and I see them beating the Pats on the final drive with a leaping Cam Newton touchdown.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

:guffaw:...reading this thread...

The Pats are good, not as good as they once were, but good enough to go undefeated in the AFC.

I thought Buffalo had a pretty good shot at the upset.

We could have the 1st(?) Superbowl with 2 undefeated teams going at it?

...it's possible I guess...

I think the Raiders have found their franchise QB...

I think if Denver can keep Peyton benched the rest of the season, the Broncos could derail the Pats.

The Steelers are going to win it all!... or probably not :D

Pretty entertaining NFL season thus far, should be fun the rest of the way.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

I think the Pats will go 15-1 because Belicheck will duct tape Brady and Gronk to the bench in week 17 so that they can be healthy for the playoffs and thus the Dolphins will be able to beat them 9 - 8 (if you're counting that 4 safeties allowed by the Dolphins)

Sorry Yanks, Zombie Rothlisberger isn't going to be able to lead your team to the playoffs, not with the Seahawks, Bengals, and Broncos looming on your schedule.
