How is it obvious? The CW would be the perfect fit for a series like Starfleet Academy, given CBS owns half of it and it has a younger skewing genre-fan audience.

    1. CBS owns exclusive rights to make Trek shows right now.

    2. CBS is trying to attract people to CBS All Access.

    3. Loads of Trekkies immediately canceled their CBS All Access subscriptions as soon as Discovery was over. In order to get that sweet, sweet Trekkie cash 12 months out of the year, CBS is going to have to have at least three shows which release in staggered order throughout the year.

That doesn't matter. As a TV studio, it's important for CBS Television Studios to correctly place their series at the right home, with the right audience. So Starfleet Academy is a more obvious fit for The CW than it is for CBS All Access.

CBS TV isn't alone here, their CW business partner made the same call with the new Batwoman series going to The CW, and not WB's new DC streaming service, despite having the same creative team as their DC streaming shows.

CBS is experimenting with different genres. They've made a conscious decision to make All Access the home of Star Trek or whatever and are tossing up different types of shows to see what sticks. If Academy does well as a teen drama (whereas Discovery was solely an adult drama), then more teen dramas, not necessarily Trek ones, will wind up on the service.

To freshen things up, maybe we should get a Star Trek cookery show?

I quite like Nailed It on Netflix so some sort of terrible/hilarious combination would be 'perfect'.

I don't give a damn about any of these possibilities other than the animated one, and that's because "animated series" could be about anything at all.

I'd like to see a series about Pike, Spock and the Enterprise - as long as they're just going to just strip-mine old characters and continuity for their "inspiration," that is. Were they ever to do anything innovative in terms of content, well, that would be a different matter.

    Go ahead, caller. I'm listening...
    Khan? No thanks.
Starfleet Academy? Only if post-Nemesis, and even then, I'd hope it would follow our cadets out onto an actual ship and mission at some point(s).
Animated Series? Post-Nemesis, sure. An animated anthology series that jumps all over the Trek timeline - YES, SIRS AND MA'AMS, PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

Hmm, Neelix can be a bad chef and The Sisko can host. :techman:

Although Sisko screaming out NAILED IT! in the campest way possible just sounds so wrong in my head...

    ...but also so good.

Don't you know that all Trek main characters eventually become starship captains?

Not bothered about khan in the slightest, and only really interested in the academy thing if it is the premise of the Picard show.

Khan's a monster but I would not want the show to be nonstop graphic torture-porn.

IMO, the Academy series is almost certainly going to be set in the same time period as Disco in the interests of establishing a shared universe and setting up potential crossovers.
That would be pretty damn awesome.

I’m guess the animated series will be next announced, but I have no idea what it would be and when it would be set. Would be cool to have some kind of starbase series I think

Probably Starfleet Academy. I am not a fan of this being some sort of CW teen show. Doubt I would watch that.
