Next bash in progress

It needs the black vent ring around the front of the nacelle right behind the dome and dabs of red and green on the nav lights.

This is gonna seem nitpicky and irreleveant but I noticed it as soon as I looked at the pic - what's that gold-ish looking bit rod going from the ship to your wedding ring, right at where the nav light is on the saucer?

^Correct. 'Tis a brass rod to stick int the docking port.

The incompete part is that, besides what Ziz said, I have to paint the running lights and phasers, and do a tiny bit of weathering. Also, Jay Chladek's decals didn't include windows for the saucer rim, and I wanna make decals for the grille on the insides of the necelles.

And with my eyesight at my age, I gotta work on this thing with reading glasses AND the mag visor on! Headaches!!

Somebody suggested a botanical garden under the green dome, so...

And I'm slowly getting the docked ships ready...

(that one's not quite done).
Exquisite detail!

Sweet work on the botanical garden! The ship also looks nice, even if it is the ridiculous "dreadnought". :)

Oh, I LOOOOVE the Dreadnought!

LOL... it wouldn't be so bad, if FJ's design wasn't such a blatant cut-and-paste... it's just a Connie with a 3rd nacelle stuck to the top, and two shuttlebays. At least the AGT "dreadnought" 1701-D had a viable hull structure supporting the 3rd nacelle.

But I just don't like the whole idea of any dreadnought in Starfleet. If you ever do a Larson or Loknar or Surya, let me know... those are the fanon TOS ships I truly love. :)

Very nice detail here. You print up your onw decals?

I've never been a fan of the 3rd nacelle- ever since I was a kid. When I first got this model I took that top nacelle off. Thought it looked a lot better. Oh well- different strokes I suppose.

The decals were printed and sold by Jay Chaldek a LOOOOONG time ago. I'm finally getting around to using them!

But it isn't. It's a whole new set of (bigger) parts:

PNT's conversion kit for the PL Enterprise consists of an entire ship except for the nacelles:

Granted it's based on the same shapesas the E, but heck, you could say that about most naval vessels too.

I can understand feeling a DN has no place in Starfleet. A lot of people feel that way.
Starship Modeler has a Surya kit a few years ago:

And I bashed a Coventry (which I prefer) myself:

Without a doubt. The FJ TM got me started kitbashing, hence the ten-of-each stockpile of Ertl and PL kits in the attic.

Thanks folks!
I may have to set it aside for a while and build something simpler. Sometimes trying to be creative hurts my head.

All of FJ's designs were cut-and-pastes. Probably encouraged the sales of a few extra AMT models, though.

Very very true. I'm not saying that FJ's stuff is bad per se... I'm just saying it's not my cup of tea... and in general, I've never liked the concept of Starfleet building/operating "dreadnoughts".

Umm, Forbin???

this project is just too damn cool to let slide to the bottom of the art forum

(Apologies to anyone who saw this reappear and thought there were some new purty pictures ;))

Man, your tiny models are better painted and detailed than most 12" models you see on the net. I too would love to see some more of this as it progresses.

Well, it's slid to the bottom of my project pile, so it's only fair.

I'll get back to it soon. I often put things aside if I come up against some indecisions or frustration. Got plenty else to do!

After I put it aside I built these instead, just to get something done:
