Well, on the one hand you'd expect virtuous Star Trek characters, aka the Great and the Good, to care about the history of spaceflight. But on the other, you'd also expect them to detest the whole idea of free speech, like all Virtuous people. What to do, what to do?

Im pretty sure Shatner is making fun of Miller. He deliberately misinterpreted Miller's criticism to be that they only have one pair of glasses for the entire bridge crew.
