News? Stories from Dubious Sources

Ah, you're against the whole show, not just that connection. Now I get it ;)
Well it doesn't seem to be happening at this point anyway.

Well, I'm trying to find the optimistic spin of the Khan show in the framing of the Trek universe. Like, I can find optimism in Picard, in Discovery, in Lower Decks, etc, but I would struggle with a Khan series.

I don't know. This Khan thing is the rumor that just won't die. I feel like even before Nick Meyer briefly rejoined the Star Trek world, this was rumored. Never say never but I'm not 100% convinced it is going to happen. For whatever reason, whether it be Kurtzman or the CBS brass, they just can't get this one going.

There is definitely optimism in Picard and Disco. But with season long arcs, you have to go through quite a bit of darkness before you see the light. That's not necessarily for everyone.
Exactly.

Kate Mulgrew as Janeway is the lead on Prodigy. That throws the rumor of Kirk being in that show out of consideration
Or does it???

PREMIERE: Captain (former Admiral) Janeway knows she needs help when it's time for the hard decisions. So as surely as Captain Riker finds faith of the heart by hanging out with the NX-01, when faced with a hard decision the newly-demoted Janeway asks 'What would another admiral-turned-captain do?' Starring Kate Mulgrew and William Shatner. Special guest star: Avery Brooks.

Hey, I'd watch it. It would probably be awful, but I'd watch it. ;)

Honestly, me too. :D

The rumor earlier in the thread though was that it was going to use Kirk, Spock, etc. as the cadets finding this ship and that Kirk was the titular prodigy. A little too on the nose and obviously not the likely scenario.

It's not. Neither is Discovery and Picard. Those themes kinda got dropped, as you've probably noticed by now.
I wouldn't say that at all. Both the first seasons of Disco and Picard start off with rather bleak outlooks of things, in reflection of their lead character's outlook on the world, Michael facing a life sentence in prison while the Federation is engulfed in a war, Picard wary and cynical as he winds the days by in retirement disillusioned with the Federation and Starfleet and what they've become. But by the end of the seasons they each have their faiths restored and the seasons end on a thematic high note. Disco managed to maintain a sense of optimism throughout its second season, and certainly Lower Decks offers an optimistic outlook as well.

What the new shows don't have is the in-your-face utopian paradise that so defined TNG, and that's fine. You don't really need that in order to be optimistic.

The enemy is always us. Study history and it showcases that. If that was what Trek was trying to say then it failed monumentally because it's been said before, and better.
