News? Stories from Dubious Sources

(though the guy alleging his video game was plagiarized was something he brought up before the dubious sources had(?): http://anas-tronaut.blogspot.com/2017/10/star-trek-discovery-tardigrades.html Which he may or may not have a case (I've not read much into it), though one or two issues are something of a stretch and it's not like Trek (especially TNG) hasn't showcased big creatures that exist in space before, but is it as overly simple as that? )
If I remember the timeline correctly (I was around when he first posted on reddit about it) he made that post and then every person who wanted to see the show cancelled glommed on to it (including the usual suspects on youtube), and pinned their hopes and dreams on this going anywhere and taking Discovery down. And there isn't really anything to it. Even back then I looked at his "evidence" and it was reaching pretty hard, and after actually actively looking into it, it pretty much evaporated into nothing.

We have a thread dedicated to that lawsuit in the Discovery subforum.

Basically it's all a big coincidence.

By that logic, The Wrath of Khan is an utter failure at storytelling because it never fills in what happened since TMP. Kirk just took the freshly-refitted Enterprise on a human adventure that was ostensibly just beginning and now he's a desk-bound, jaded has-been and the Enterprise is an aging training ship without any explanation. Nick Meyer & Harvey Bennett don't know jack about proper storytelling, they're literally every single bad thing about Star Trek personified, #RuinedForever, #NotMyStarTrek and so on.

Star Trek Discovery confirmed to be part of Starfleet Battles Universe! Seltorians and Andromedans to appear in season 3! You heard it hear first! :techman:

Thanks!

(Note: DSC is not my favorite incarnation for the same reason I can't stand ENT - prequels just don't have anything new to tell and it's way to easy to blast continuity, where it's needed the most. That's where I'm hoping DSC becomes its own self in season 3, away from continuity that just didn't begin to fit in. Some of its base ideas, including spore drive with blender ballerina dancing ship just looked like post-24th century to begin with. Free from constraints we know a good chunk of DSC's fanbase won't bother with and/or decry as being dated and sexist and everything else, DSC made a good decision and is worthy of a chance with its latest set of producers, et al. Season 1, IMHO, was too fanservicey and without any real build-up and season 2's opener was just off-putting, though I did sit through a few clips. Not my cup of tea but maybe season 3 will be. And at least DSC got what 2009 V's remake didn't - a chance to fix things and not end on a cliffhanger... (2009 V largely sucked, despite a couple novel ideas in play, but the finale finally got enough right that I was wanting more but then they canceled it... they either drew out the setup for far too long or had no clue what they were doing until it was past too late. The fact they needed Jane Badler, whose presence and acting ability elevated even the worst of season 2 and there's a lot that in there was just beyond pure stupidity, is telling. Especially as she's not a conniving baddie as she was in the original. But I digress.)

Another new development: One of the "usual sources" put up a claim saying DSC is not watched because of a statistics tracking site now being the definitive source of popularity. And these tracking sites, depending on who runs them, only track search queries based on their own site and don't reflect word of mouth or all search engine avenues. That person also used TNG as a comparison. For some reason, Orville and other Trek spinoffs were not used (unfortunately, in doing so the alleged narrative being made would not hold up. In fact, changing "The Orville" to "The Orville TV" or "The Orville Seth" pretty much weed out curve-altering dfeviations such as that popcorn thing of the same name or that aeroplane thing of the same name or that general person's name thing or Canadian singer thing or local appliance store thing... and et cetera things. But who knows, many would type in "The Orville" sans additional qualifiers and be happy with that, not thinking about false positives or false negatives. Some in the audience would fathom that, others not so much. How to deal with everyone in the audience is not an easy task...
