News on Enterprise: Romulan War?

I've not been around here much recently, but I was wondering if while I've been away there have been any updates on the next Enterprise book. I know it's still a few months away from being released, but there were a lot of early previews for the earlier Enterprise Relaunch books. Does anyone know, have there been any spoiler text posts or sneak previews or cover artwork posted anywhere for this title? After all these years, to finally get a chronicle of the Romulan War, it seems like that ought to be a big deal book wise.

I know it's only a temporary cover... but I went all giddy for a second there.

It's only a rough pencil sketch, but Shran looks as if he's wearing an Earth Starfleet flightsuit.

I'm hoping they manage to still fit in historical events alluded to in These are the Voyages... but presumably also inaccuracies by the 24th century, such as why Shran fakes his death.

July is when the Convenetion where all the books news is announced. Hopefully we'll get news and spoiler info for the new Enterprise book Romulan War relaunch miniseries. And the final cover will be revealed.Amazon.com had an update and a slight title change The Romulan war :Under the Raptor's wing.It was mentioned in The Vulcan arc in season 4.

I don't think anyone has said there will be a miniseries, just that this is the first book about the Romulan War.

Manny Coto did say he wanted Shran in a Starfleet Uniform. Would be cool to see this followed in the books.

Can't wait.

I think that might be a crossed wire with wanting him as a regular. I know Mike Sussman used any opportunity during his writing for Enterprise to get T'Pol into a flightsuit. Something they made permanent during The Good That Men Do.

Shran in one, does have a certain amount of symblism though. Foreshadowing MACO, Imperial Guard, Vulcan and Tellarite forces being folded into a Federation Starfleet charter and filling military, exploratory and scientific roles.

Of course, looking at the latest film, it seemed to be almost totally humancentric... (not quite as bad as a Terra Prime party rally but even so). Of course, it is an alternate reality or might just have been low on alien cadets during Kirk's graduating year.

We saw more aliens in Starfleet in this one movie than we saw in all three seasons of TOS. I think Spock was the only nonhuman we ever actually saw in a Starfleet uniform in TOS proper; the Tellarites, Andorians, other Vulcans, etc. that we saw were always civilians. We heard about the Vulcan crew of Intrepid, but they were segregated. It wasn't until TAS and then the movies that we saw other alien Starfleet personnel.

In the movie, on the other hand, we see a number of aliens in Starfleet: K'Bentayr (the exotic alien on the Kelvin bridge), the big-eyed doctor who delivers baby Jim Kirk, Gaila (the Orion woman), Spock, several nonhumans in the audience at the assembly and in the hangar afterward, an alien crewwoman on the Enterprise bridge, Keenser on Delta Vega, and probably several other extras.

Indeed. While Spock was the only Vulcan we saw in Starfleet, we probably saw more non-Humans in ST09 -- and in particular, more non-near-Human aliens like Betazoids; far, far more exotic aliens than that -- than we ever have before.

Well, not ever. There were plenty of exotic aliens in the Enterprise crew in TMP, though most of them only appeared in the rec deck briefing scene. I think TMP still has the new movie beat for Starfleet diversity.

Ah, fair enough, I'd forgotten about that sequence.

Still, ST09 should get props for a diverse Starfleet (even if most of that diversity isn't featured as prominently as the main characters in consequence of it being a TOS remake).

Perhaps we'll learn more about Scotty's short helpmate in the next one? Double edged sword this diversity in Starfleet, if it produces Trek's answer to Jar-Jar Binks. :p

Well, he *is* wearing a red shirt, so for me the natural evolution of his personal arc is pretty obvious.....

This reminds me of something I've been meaning to ask for ages. Where in TMP are the Rigellian Chelons?

The publicity photos show the Rigellians (the name "Chelons" comes from the books) in traditional garb, not Starfleet, so they were probably somewhere in the crowd at the Starfleet HQ tram station along with the other alien dignitaries.

Scotty (weeping): "Thanks, Doctor. I know you tried your best..."

Rushes out of sickbay

-Beat-

McCoy (to empty room): "Not really".

Ok, I've looked at the screen caps for that scene before, but I couldn't find them.

When I first saw this cover a month ago, Shran does look like hes in a Starfleet uniform. Would be interesting to finally see him on the Enterprise, even if its to help out with the War.

What I'm wondering (and I apologize if this has already been brought up elsewhere) is whether any of the new characters from the movie will appear in any future novels set in the regular or prime Trek universe, such as Captain Robau, Gaila and Keenser. It would be interesting to know what paths their lives take in the universe we're already familiar with.
