News about early 2014 schedule

At least the TMP uniforms are functional and don't look like Horatio Hornblower cosplay. Those heavy maroon jackets might've made sense as dress uniforms, but they're preposterous as everyday duty wear. Ditch the jackets and just put the insignia pins on the turtleneck underneath and you'd have something, though.

I have to admit, impractical as they may be, the TWOK uniforms are my favourite Trek uniforms of all time. They just look so classy! But I admit that may be some kind of cultural thing at work.

But I will agree, it doesn't really make much sense to have them as the standard duty uniform, just as the image I linked to above isn't the standard duty uniform for the RCMP, either. Now, I can certainly see them as a service dress uniform rather than a full dress uniform, but you're correct that you probably wouldn't wear those during day-to-day operations on a standard deployment.

(And *does* Starfleet have a separate dress uniform during this time? We see the crew wear these same uniforms during their court martial in ST4, whereas in TOS they wore dress uniforms during a court martial. Maybe the maroon jackets *are* the dress uniforms... but then why does everyone wear them on standard duty?)

I actually thought that the uniforms introduced in ST5 would have worked well as the Starfleet equivalent of the USN's service uniform or working uniform during the TWOK era, although I would have added a Starfleet logo on the chest, and replaced those combat boots or whatever they were with the standard boots.

Some novels set during that era do make reference to separate dress uniforms, but I don't remember if they really go into detail in describing them.

Agreed. I always thought the TWOK red uniforms were way to bulky. Especially compared to just about every other uniform we observed SF personnel wearing throughout the various series. Wouldn't they be hot as hell inside the climate controlled ships/instalations with such heavy upper-wear :vulcan:?

Hell, Sisko wore the red high-necked shirt, a thick vest, and the gray/black jacket.

Meanwhile, I think between TMP and TWOK more likely because I thought I read somewhere that that's considered a more marketable time period than between TOS and TMP.

And yet Christopher was unable to continue after "Ex Machina" as full novels because that book hadn't sold strongly enough, so he's revisited the period in sneakier ways, such as an installment of "Mere Anarchy" and within the plot of "Forgotten History".

What I had meant and indeed even alluded to in my post was that I believe it more likely to be connected to TWOK than to TMP.

No real info beyond this snippet from a TrekCore interview with Una a couple of months ago:

TrekCore: Can you tell us anything about Home Again, the Next Generation story you have coming out in late 2014?

Una McCormack: I’m going to be fairly cryptic - yes, I'm writing that novel, but as for the details... Home Again will probably not even be the final title!

And ASFAIK, it's EBook only.

Unlikely, as Una is talking about a novel there and the eBooks are novellas. For now there only is a eBook listing, but that has happened a lot in the recent years, that books are only listed as eBooks as first, with the pBook listings added later.

What is/was odd about this book beside the strange release date is how early the listing appeared. IIRC it was the first 2014 book listed sometime in April I think, despite being one of the last books published in 2014. I fully expect to see a pBook listing added sometime in early 2014.

Yep, that's a cover. Not sure what else to say about it. :-)

And yeah, everything I've read tells me Home Again is going to be a novel, not a novella.

I think cover ok. Although since I switched from real books to kindle the cover seems to matter less to me now, whereas before it was a very important aspect of the book. Always find it curious how quickly one can adapt to change. :)

I think the cover is ok. I don't think it's terrible, but it's not great either. I've already pre ordered, it sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

I like the cover. It gets the job done: Kirk meets Seven of Nine.

No one can possibly miss what the book is about. Mission accomplished.

(My fear, honestly, was that I'd get some snazzy bit of space or starship art that didn't play up the Seven-meets-Kirk angle.)

The design of the cover is pretty cool, but the execution isn't that great. It's IMO a pretty bad photoshop job.
