newest tear-jerker commercial

Bears, Godless Killing Machines!!!!

Seriously, though, this is a touching ad. It's also the first ad I've seen promoting an electric car for actually helping the environment instead of simply being "futuristic" (seriously, go watch "Who Killed the Electric Car?", it's like they didn't give a shit about promoting them back in the day). This is the first ad for an electric car that actually looks like it cares about selling electric cars. And it works because it has cute fucking animals in it :p

EDIT: What city is that, btw?

Lighten up. The ad's supposed to be funny. And yes, one of the selling points for electric cars is that it's good for the environment. Who are you to judge people for that? Just buy a fucking SUV to substitute your manliness with 2 tons of useless steel if that makes you feel better.

Way to make assumptions that can't actually be drawn from the content of what I said.

As I said before, cleaning up on general principle isn't a bad idea. Putting less stuff into the atmosphere, regardless of whether you think the amount of human effect on the climate certainly can't hurt anything. When it's clear that the technology is ready for what I would need it to do, and it has proven itself from a safety perspective, then I think it could be a very good idea. What I don't care for is the politics attached to the whole climate change thing. That is an entirely different matter.

There is no politics attached to the climate change thing unless you want there to be. It's like saying you don't want to see money in a commercial because it's a political issue.

Well, the one good thing about electric cars is that they'll require Kentucky to build a bunch more coal fired powerplants, which will produce jobs at both the powerplant and up on the strip mines. :)

i think this might be a bad time to add that i drive a prius...
*avoids rotten tomatoes.*

EDIT: and no, i'm not gay.

That's okay. Nancy Botwin drives a Prius and found out they're great for drive-by shootings because they're so quiet.

The Westside of Los Angeles is absolutely swarming with Priuses. (Prii?) Those little doorstops-on-wheels are fucking EVERYWHERE. It figures -- this is where all the tree-huggers live.

I hate this commercial because it's not realistic. A polar bear would never travel that far South or express affection for a Human. They should have made it more realistic. And darker. And grittier.

Vancouver. The polar bear crosses the Burrard St. Bridge at one point.

Why would global warming make a polar bear go to Vancouver??? They would only go to Vancouver if we were hit with an ice age.

The theory being that their habitat was melted, which is happening. But, yeah, they wouldn't necessarily travel that far south (although the southern most ones might get pushed by the northern ones and could theoretically end up there). When it comes to ice, global warming means more than just things being cold.

Or Vancouver could just be playing generic, clean, pleasant-looking city like it does in numerous films and TV shows and isn't meant to be a commentary on polar bears migrating there specifically because of global warming?

You're not supposed to take it so literally. In other news: polar bears don't actually drink Coca-Cola.

Polar bears do too drink Coca-Cola. They like it because it's sweet and their teeth can rip open the cans they find on the Japanese tourists they eat.

I go with this. I doubt very much that the producers of the commercial intended for the viewer to recognize Vancouver and think this thing through quite that far. I mean, Vancouver's a lovely city and all, but when you want people to recognize a city you choose one with an iconic image like the Space Needle or the Golden Gate Bridge or the Empire State building.

Wow, I really never expected this thread to get so ... serious. I just thought it was a cute commercial with a cuddly-wuddly polar bear thanking a guy for helping stop global warming (which, unfortunately, I agree that a Leaf will not do ... unless everyone in America bought one ... and they were all powered by the sun or something. But, hey, we willingly suspend our disbelief for shows like Star Trek and King of Queens ... and Glen Beck. LOL!

F**k, there goes my childhood.

That reminds me of an old Farside calendar I had. There were 2 polar bears looming over a broken open igloo and one is saying, "mmmm, my favorite: crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside."

Polar bears were put in danger by man.

They evolved.

They rebelled.

And the have a plan.
