Newest issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- Season 8

Helmed by Jos Whedon himself.

I've had several very unkind things to say about the series, pretty much from the beginning, and this episode didn't changed anything.

The artist has imporved every so slightly, but that's not saying much since is was crap to begin with; like some high school kid who got lucky and crabbed a big gig.

The writing is boring, often out of character for the characters, and with no time retraints or budget restrictions, Joss just doesn't seem to know any boundaires and when to stop. Let me tell you what's in this issue -- aside from the Forest people which are lead by a tree man with an arm shaped like a sword -- that is on fire -- and gold bracelets on some of his roots, a midget with a hammer, and other silyl shit which we saw the previous issues, this time ... this time ... we got a big fucking owl. Bigger than a person.

And surprise, surprise -- Whedon kills off somebody again, this time a main character.

I put it down, unmoved, bored, and wanting my money back. I go up to the counter and ask to be "taken off the Buffy list". No more of this stupid crap. What the HELL was Whedon thinking? I'm going to stick with "Angel" (who, annoying, has a large floating fish) since the at work is far superior and it's obvioust WAY MORE effort is being put into it writing and plotting wise.

I got all the back issues if anyone wants to purchase. No lose on my end.

You keep saying this after every issue. I thought you'd stopped ages ago

And which artist are you referring to? The main artist of Season 8 has been Georges Jeanty, but for the last 4 issues (16-19, the Time of Your Life arc) has been Karl Moline.
And if you're slagging of Karl Moline then you're having a laugh. This is the same guy who did the original Fray series artwork, and I think his art is frakking excellent.

The death of a certain character wasn't done in a conventional sense at all, and it'll be very interesting to see how that plays out and how they ended up in that posistion.
It was also great to see the return of an old charatcer revealed to be working for Twilight. Again, very eager to see "how that plays out and how they ended up in that posistion."

And the next issue #20 looks pretty awesome, as Buffy revisits the gangs Highschool days, and drawn in the style of the ill-fated animated series.

And how on earth can you slag off Betta George??? He's hilarious, and brilliant in Brian Lynch's previous Spike: Asylum and Spike: Shadow Puppets

The BtVS show is classic, but Whedon has a MASSIVE ego and needs to know when to put it to rest. The Season 8 comic series is a bore full of out of character moments. I quit after #12 and have no desire to come back. I'll stick with the show seasons 1-7.:techman:

^ Quit after #12. And thats because a woman exploring her sexuality offends you doesn't it?

Well, I kept saing, but I did it this time. Enough is enough.

Which artist? I had no idea they changed. All of them were crap. I recently read Whedon asked the artist from "The Astonishing X-Men" to be on, but he was too busy. THAT was a HUGE lose for BTVS S8.
Hated the Fray art too. For that matter, hate Fray and her friends and enemies. They're all like third rate, tertiary characters that I would expect to see on "Charmed", not Whedon's universe. And Fray's future speak alone pissed me off.

I watched that crappy animated Buffy pilot on YouTube a couple weeks back. Terrible. And they want to devote an issue to that art style? Good thing I got out now!

Whats so bad about the Fray art, this is the first time I've ever heard anyone say they really disliked it. Yes the art is Astonishign X-Men is very good, but it seems you only consider the art good if its super lifelike. This is a comic book you know? Its a totally different medium to TV. And comic charatcers are allowed to look a bit cartoony, its not illegal you know

And what was "so terrible" about the animated Buffy? It's not even 4 minutes long and is only meant to have been a "what could be" for the proposed series, an intro to the style, design etc
Again, its a cartoon, so heaven forgive if it SHOCK HORROR looks like a cartoon

I'm not even saying I adore Season 8 btw, for a long time it seemed to be doing nothing. The Faith arc really didn't need to be 4 issues, and the Wolves at the Gate arc was pretty meh. And Angel:ATF is way better.
Still I find there's a lot to enjoy about it, the recent Buffy/Fray crossover arc was brilliant, and at only £1.80 an issue which is nothing to me, its always worth picking up.
Plus with a 40 issue run, we're not even halfway through yet, meaning in Season terms its only up to about episode 10. And Buffy seasons often didn't really kick the plot into gear until later on

This is an official, canon Season 8 helmed (and occassionally written by) Joss whedon himself, not some random BTVS comic. I expect more. WAY more.

I haven't read up this far but thank goodness she's dead. I couldn't stand that she'd lived that long only to revert to such a base state when... She had the capacity to be so much more.
