Newbie looking for two specific stories

I hope this is ok to ask. I've never read any fan fiction, but there are two stories which it seems are never going to be told by the licenced fiction that I'm hoping someone has written as fan fic. Maybe this will turn me on to the whole fanfic world.

1) The ending to the Star Trek: Early Voyages comic cliffhanger. In either comic form or text form.

2) Whatever happened in the early 2280s? I assume years of missions after TMP and then Kirk retired. But then he came back, and then somehow everyone ended up in the positions they were in at the beginning of TWOK. Anyone fleshed this out a little better?

I recommend this story from Ad Astra, for Question #2. I haven't read it myself because I'm not interested in the time period, so much, but I CAN vouch for the quality of the author--Anna Amuse. She's from Russia, I believe, and has a grasp over the English language that I think will make most native speakers jealous. Not to mention excellent plots and characterization!

Yup the suggestion from Nerys is spot on. Anna Amuse's story Absolute Horizon is perhaps a definitive tale for that era!

Isn't that story an end of the first five year mission tale. I was talking about between TMP and TWOK.

The first suggestion was great, but I'm not sure if I want to dive into something so vast. Anything else available?

Actually, you may want to just pop over to Ad Astra and see what's cooking. There's a lot of stuff over there written by some great authors. There's a rating system and various categories so you can narrow your search.
