I would far rather be stuck in Hong Kong, think of the food!
I don't know whether you need a visa for Hong Kong/China (although I don't think so). If you do you can't just leave the airport if you don't have that visa. You could, of course, leave the airport in London but two hours is way too short for anything meaningful. Going to the city by bus or train just takes too long.
Hong Kong's airport is pretty close to the city, or at least used to be. My sister told me that during the approach to land at the airport the plane would be so low above the houses she was afraid the plane's wheels would get entangled in a clothesline. But that was the old airport. Anyway, you might have the chance to get out and sample the local cuisine at a food stand but that's probably about it.
One of my friends spent an university year in New Zealand and planned one of the flights in such a way that she had a day at least in one of the stop-overs. Maybe you can do that on the way back. It's certainly worth considering since you're already 'in the area'.

Your dog will be fine. Your parents are good to take care of her. As others posted, spend time with her while you can and trust at she will be in good hands.

Thanks. Yes Max will be fine, but right now I try not to think about never seeing her again in about 5 weeks. But I do spend as much time with her as I can... and try to pretent she will be turning at least 17 1/2, so that I can see her again, even I know thats very unlikley to happen.
On the way back I hope to be able to book the flights with stop overs in at least one, maybe two countries...depending on the prize. On this way though I have to travel without long stop overs, because I have to start working.

HK and China have separate visa policy. German citizens don't need a visa to HK, just a stamp.
Yeah, that must have been the old airport in the middle of Kowloon. Now the airport is far, on one of outlying islands. From the plane it looks like landing on water
TN, such a shame you have only 2 hours in HK. If you had more time, we could meet and I'd show you around...the local cuisine, which indeed is great

*sigh* Why is the grass always greener on the other side of the fence? I like New Zealand, but I feel I really want to go home again.. epspecially the Christmastime is hard. I miss my dog...I miss my family and friends... and I miss a place for my own, my own apartement again, where I can can go after work and not having work and sparetime mixed together like now.

It is always very difficult to be away from your own space for a long time. Will you get to go home for a visit at some point?
Maybe it'd help if you were able to go to stay for a proper holiday somewhere else in New Zealand - save up and get a hotel somewhere
It's just the seasonal blues because you're away from home - you'll wonder what you were so worked up about in a few days!

I have decidet to fly back earlier (probably in March). I need my own space again and miss my loved ones. NZ is a beautiful country and I like it here...I know I will regret it in a way to leave earlier, but I will regret it more to stay and not seeing my dog again (I hope she does not die in the next weeks!).
