New Zealand to get Star Trek before America

Just heard it's being released here May 7th, which is May 6 in America, so it'll be a good 36 hours before most of America sees it.

I wonder why?

Didn't we just have a "Ha! We'll see it in Australia before you Yanks" thread, recently? Anyway, it is as stated on the international list of release dates put out on the official site several months ago. Old news, really.

As I summarized it here last week:

Simultaneous international releases can be tricky to get the whole cast to every major premiere event, though, and this film's opening nearly everywhere in the same week.

Although, isn't Belgium (or somewhere in Europe) actually getting it first?

Yes, it opens first in Belgium, France and (French-speaking) Switzerland on May 6th, then in Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Thailand, Israel, Lebanon, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia & Montenegro, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, (German-speaking) Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine, Argentina, Chile and Peru on the 7th.

People in all of those places will see it before it opens in the U.S.
